Finally puttin in the headers!!!

got an appointment tomorrow morning (10/16) at Group 5 motorsports San Diego to install my headers thats been sittin in my garage for months... they estimated the labor at 162.50... not bad considering Cush Acura quoted me at $400!

but for you CL-P people, i'll be the one to let u know the improvements...

I'm guessing that the headers will have more output though for the CL-S... is that right?

i'm also hoping for +20hp at the crank... what do you guys think?

well, i also recently bought a Canon Powershot S300, and i'll take pics with that... I LOVE that digicam btw...

Akim711,

Did you ever send back the headers you bought from Sierra Acura in Alhambra to Comptech USA to have them fixed? The Comptech headers that Sierra Acura was selling was from the first batch that had vibration noises at low RPM's. The problem was that the B-pipe section on the Y-pipe (lower part) was wound to tight which caused a vibration at idle up to 2000 RPM's. To fix the problem send it to Comptech which will only cost you shipping. Comptech USA knows of this problem and will give you no hassles. Good Luck and have fun!

CLPower,

My company is going through a merger at the present time, so I have been pretty busy traveling. I now work for a small company called VIACOM.

WHASUP GREEN BOX!

Just been working a lot. I don't have the time to be on the Acura-cl.com forum as much as before. I don't have a hook-up in the plane to check out whats going on. As for an Acura CL/TL meet just post it and I'll try to look out for the date in December.

hey guys... ok, the labor costed 162.50, which isn't bad... but after the header install here's what i experienced...

when i started the car, i noticed it sounded a little different... a little lower in tone coming from the engine. nothing seriously noticable... my friend didn't seem to notice, but like he said... it's my car... i should know.

after making a few hard punches, here's what i've got to say...
I DID NOT NOTICE MUCH OF A PERFORMANCE DIFFERENCE AT ALL. Maybe i was expecting too much, and from all the praise that i've heard... but yeah, i think those headers have more to offer on the CL-S than on the CL-P... maybe its the whole dual stage induction thing that makes better use of it... I'm sure if i dyno or run a track, the numbers will prove the increase but it wasn't anything noticable really.

Is there something wrong? Should i disconnect the battery and let the ECU reset its torque curves?

I'm thinking there's only one way to be sure... i have a friend back in arcadia with a prelude that i seldom race with... the result was always the same: i'd be 1.5 car lengths ahead of him (we both have auto trannies so the shifting is pretty consistent). I'll just have to see if there's an actual improvement.

Disappointed? well, the dyno says +17hp/+14lbs/ft at the wheels... but it just didn't feel like it. so yeah, i guess disappointed a little, but i'll have to wait and see. I'm pretty sure my car is faster, but maybe i was expecting too much... and i paid a 1000 bucks too!

speaking of that... yes, i got these headers cheap from sierra acura for like 850 or something. (was on a clearance)...
And ERIC- I called Comptech and they said that they made very little of the defected header models and that they're all accounted for... I didn't really have much to say after that, but i hope they're right because i took their word for it!!! My cars sittin overnight outside... i'll start the car in the morning, and i'll look for strange noises. i'll keep you posted, and thanks for your help man.

Headers dont make a huge difference on the street. The track and highway is a different story.

By the way, does Sierra Acura in Alhambra still have Comptech headers for the CL-S on discount?

Goowakjai,

Sorry to say no, but Andy "akim711" got the last Comptech header from Sierra Acura. As for being brave while flying I would be lying to you if I said I wasn't a concerned at all. I do feel more safe flying now then before.

Akim711,

Hopefully you purchased a good Comptech header and don't have to go thourgh all the hassle I did having to figure out what the noise was. As for not feeling horsepower or torque, next time save up and do a dyno run before and after so that there is no guessing on improvements. And don't use a BUTT DYNO!!! They always give false readings!!!
