Failed Inspection

Because of the bitching of stupid tree huggers all cars have to pass a new exhaust inspection. They have to meet a criteria for NOx gases.

Needless to say my mom's 91' Previa didn't pass it. Now its in the shop....and god knows what it will take to make it pass.($$$$)

I told her to get the MDX.

Any of yoy guys had the same problems on ur older cars?

In Miami everyone would just give the inspectors a few extra bucks and you would pass.

High nox levels are usually caused by high combustion temperatures. Often times when we reinspect a car that failed at the state lane, it passes since it didn't have to stand in line before testing. Also- make sure the EGR system is working- its primary purpose is to cool the combustion temps to avoid knock and high nox.

thanx wayneg....

As for you Zapata, dude i like trees as much as any normal person...but i dont like crazy enviornmentalists. I mean how much less exhaust can cars produce? Why arent they attacking large factories?? Just look at the smoke that comes out of them! I think alot of enviornmentalists have good ideas but they do enjoy to knock cars down too often. THERE ARE BIGGER FISH TO FRY

I read in the paper yesterday about the double standard in NJ. Private garages have to adhere to the tough standard but state inspections do not for the newer cars. What a crock.

Now I hear we are going to adopt the same air quality standards that NY and California have. The next thing you know, they will ban old cars.... there goes the GTO.

Sorry to hear your moms vehicle didn't pass. I bought a bottle of this product called Guarantee To Pass for $7, put it witha full tank of gas, then use the tank up and refill it then go get the test. Also made sure I got a fresh oil change and new plugs. The car passed, a 1985 Toyota Carolla. Wish you would have wrote sooner.

z28typeSWRXkid,
You can ALWAYS do more. I'm sure people said that when manufacturers started doing it. What about SUV's and trucks? They are pretty much exempt from and fuel standards. Bigger fish to fry? There like 100 million cars or something.....how much bigger than that can you get?

are they exempt or do they just have lower standards? And im not going by figures...just by guessing. I would think that all the cars in the united states do not make as much pollution as a major factory would. I am simply saying that they should end their fascination with the automobile and move onto factories.

By the way i dont side with republicans...GREEN PARTY ALL THE WAY!

Cars are extremely clean by todays standard. Trucks and busses are not. Lobbyists have held legislation up for years to regulate trucks and busses. The same goes for industry. Those that have money can hold up the process for centuries. Today a cow passes more harmful methane gas than a current (90's or newer) automobile. Tree huggers is an expression for labeling extremists. Is that you Zapata? I don't think so.
