Sorry to hear that I had that situation happen several times and I know it's very frustrating.

Well you have some options:
1)you could claim it on your insurance but depending the insurance company and how much the insurance company pays it could count as an accident against you.

2)You can also file a claim with the city that controls the turnpike but they will usually only reimburse you after you claimed it and been paid by your insurance company.

3) You could pay for it yourself I say this because if you check with your insurance company and if they say it will count against you as an accident it might be cheaper in the long run (depending of course how much damage there is) for you to pay out of your pocket because an accident counts against you for 3 years so it will make your insurance higher for that amount of time.

How are you gonna find a replacement wheel? They don't make those anymore.

If the wheel is the only thing damaged and you have a 500 deductible i would'nt file a claim.

I would take it to a shop and have them look and make sure everything else is ok.

If it is just the wheel save yourself the hassle and pay out of pocket imo.

Contact whomever maintains the road and file a complaint. Sometimes you might get something out of it, but with the current economy they probably will deny it.

Are you getting on at exit 11 on the njtpk?

I just paid out of pocket when my rim was cracked by a pothole. Didn't bother with the city because they take months for everything and I didn't feel like the hassle

I wouldn't file a claim with a 500 deductible for a wheel,that would be crazy.
You have a new wheel and put it on,and go from there.
Lower you dedutible too dude $500 can be a bad hit durring hard times.

I wont file a claim if thats just a rim. But my car does not seem to drive straight so it might be a bit more expensive than it looks like. And yes i will lower deductible

I would assume that that hard of a hit did wonders for your alignment. Might wanna get that looked at.

Also don't thoes toll roads have on the ticket to "travel at your own risk", or 'they are not responcible for damages'? Just saying for the liability issue in question.

I have also seen a friend get shafted by a construction company that left a very bad lip/bump in the road they were working on and had no signs up telling people about the hazard. he destroyed both front rims. (some very costly rims). He went to the company with the claim and they denied him because he had aftermarket wheels with very low profile tires. So their argument was that if he had OEM size tires he would have never had that severe of damage. I see thier point to an extent, but they should have had a sign up. It's like if someone lowers thier car and goes over a speed bump and tears off thier oil pan, well, its thier own fault. The city should not be held liable because they modified thier vehicle.

But in your case that is one hell of a pot hole in an otherwise decent looking road. You would think they would get something that can cause a accident fixed. I wonder how many other people hit that thing. I think I would atleast send them all the information, pictures and stuff and see what they say. its worth a shot! I think I would try.

Rim from dealer was $275

the following were replaced under warranty (lower ball joint left side) dealer mecanic stated that it should not have failed) as I just had the joints put on the week before
left front tire (road hazzard ftw!) had to buy the right tire at a discount cause they bought the old one from me for $25.

CH46ESeaKnight,

that legal mumbo jumbo only works if the damage was not caused by their neglegence. If they do not properly maintain the road, they are neglegent thus making that statement void

My mechanic told me that its might be 2-2.5k to fix the car. Nothing sure yet but i'll get estimate hopefully this week. So the question is - is it worth to file a claim and get insurance to pay for it so i will pay more for car insurance for next 3 years ? I dont know that depends how much they gonna raise it. I'll ask my agent and see what he says. Im pissed of for real now.

If it cost that much then YES file a claim. Thats what you pay them for. My insurance has never gone up due to a claim. Of course I've never been at fault either. I've even totaled out a Tahoe when I hit 2 deer. $17K claim and my insurance stayed the same. It was covered under Comp not collision, so that might have something to do with the rates not going up.

I feel if they are collecting almost $200 a month for all my insurance needs (Home/car/ and a few other things) then i'm going to use it when I need it. That's what it is for.

It's worth a shot to file with NJ but what I was told was unless they:

1) knew about it
2) had sufficient time to repair

you are SOL

sorrry dude !!
are those ron jon inspyres or servos ??
I am guessing u were flying. I say this becos I had the same issue last winter but the pothole I hit was 3x deeper than yours (Riverdale, MD(I 404) and I am lowered but It turned out I was OK only had to replace the wheel (Ron Jon Inspyre,
The suspension was fine becos when I checked my aligment a few months after it was still within specs and I was doing like 45 mph when i hit.

lesson learnt: never travel on aftermarket wheels in winter

The lower his deductible, the higher his premiums will be.

o dang didnt know potholes did that much damage... and im on stretched tires . hope you get it resolved. i would definitely go at the state first and then just put a claim for non accidental claim with ur insurance so u dont just sit around waiting for the city to pay. It wont hurt too bad if they call it ur fault and this is your only claim with them for like 5 years i think.
