Extended Warranty Shopping Help

It's my understanding (from this board) that you can buy the extended warranty from any dealer in the country. Is this true? Has anyone done this? Do you get something when you purchase the warranty? I am considering doing this as I plan on keeping the car for a long time. What kind of prices have you been getting? I got the car in August of 2000 and have about 19,600 miles. Thanks in advance!

You can not only get an extended warranty from any dealer, you can also purchase one from places like credit unions, etc. There is some talk about Acura dealer purchased being better than buying from someplace else (including the web), but since I don't have either I can't add anything to that. YMMV

I shopped around with 3 different dealers and my local dealer ended up undercutting the other 2 nicely. It doesn't matter where you get the warranty from. On the computer, it just says if you have it or not, but doesn't indicate where you purchased it. I personally went with the Acura warranty over a 3rd party one just for the piece of mind. Just keep in mind that your price for the warranty will vary based on your miles, so start shopping now since you're already at 20k!!

I'm consdering the same thing. I started a thread on this a week ago. Some have paid $1000 for 5 years. I called a local dealer and was quoted $1200 and during the conversation he lowered it to $1100. I've heard bad things about the non- Acura warranties. Sometimes they don't pay when they should. It's bassically an insurance policy.

Let me know if you get some quotes.

When I purchased my '02, the dealer quoted $1300 for an extended. I have not purchased one yet. On past extended warranties that I have purchased, the price drops if you take the option of paying a deductible. The more the deductible, the less the cost for the warranty. What always ticks me off is they promote the warranty as a 5yr 75K mile (or whatever) warranty and what you are really paying for is basically just another two years of coverage.

Check out: www.acurawarranty.com Their prices seem to be very fair, and there is no sales tax on it unless you live in New Jersey.

Be sure to check with your insurance company.

Got mine (from GEICO) for ~$48 per year.

has anyone bought from this place?? they get $1,000 for the 7 year/100k mile for under 2 years of ownership and less than 24k miles. that's with a $50 deductible and an extra $175 for 0 deductible. that seems pretty good.

I have Geico for my Car Insurance. Their Mechanical breakdown policy comes with a $250 Deductible and does not cover everything. Have you ever made a claim.
