Extended Warranty

When I purched my 01 a couple of weeks ago, I turned down the extened warranty they offered becasue I figured I could get a better deal on my own.

I purchased my car from a non-acura dealership and they were going to set me up with a no name brand warranty.

1. Does acura offer extended warranties available for purchase? How much?
2. If not acura, do you recommend a company or on-line service?

thanks

Generally speaking, one should not buy an extended warranty on such more reliable cars like Toyota, Honda cars. It would not be a prudent expenditure. Extended warranty are valid for very expensive but not so reliable cars such as Audi, MB, etc. because they are very expensive to repair! Extended warranty are more valid for less reliable domestic cars, but then, why would anyone buy a cheap make less reliable domestic cars and buy extended warranty on top of it? But many people do

True, but although Toyotas and Hondas as a whole are reliable running cars, how reliable are every one of their components? I've seen a ton of Honda A/C compressors take a dump at around 70K. One A/C problem can pay for the warranty. I know I am more apt to take better care of a car and fix every little problem after 50K, if someone else is footing the bill, because I have sort of "prepaid" it by buying an extended warranty.

I'd buy on on the Acura, especially for the Tranny. You need to verify that you at least have that. I don't know if it's transferrable or not. I've research 3rd party warranty services extensively. Problem with factory warranties is that a 5 year 100k warranty starts from date of auto purchase. So you are really only gettin 1 extra year in addition to the standard 4/50k that Acura has.

Aftermarket warranties will give you 5 years from the date of warranty purchase, to a total of 100k miles say. So you could get up to 9 years of coverage. The most reliable outfit out there seems to be Warranty Direct. They have the absolute best BBB ratings etc. Warranty Gold went CH11 so watch out for them. Warranty Direct you can research the rating on their insurance company they use. In general they seemed to be the best deal I could find. I will be using them for my Ford.

These days, for the cost of the warrnty, (maybe $1200 for a 7 year 100k) it's cheap. All you'd have to do is have the AC controls fixed and it would proably pay for itself. You know those things got to cost big time on the CLS. And the tranny is going to be $4k if it needs it. If I don't dump my CL at 50k I will definately get the extended just to make sure I don't have to deal with the glass trannies we have.

I learned my lesson in assuming a Honda product would be something I don't have to worry about. Just look at the Tranny forum on this site will tell you that.

Stay away from ANY warranty that isn’t Acura Care.
Those 3rd party companies are going bankrupt all the time.
Acura’s ARE reliable, but they are also EXPENSIVE to fix when things go wrong.

Check out this thread if you haven’t read it.

All the info is in there for the warranty I plan on buying this weekend for MY car.
I’m going with the 0-deductible 7-Year 75,000 Mile plan for 865-dollars.
I don’t drive enough to warrant getting the 7/100 version.

Yes, that’s the deal I went with, but I think it’s worth the extra 40-bucks for the ZERO deductible instead of 50 each occurrence.
I thought my coupon was 75, but I'll check when I get home.

I went back and forth with the deductible. If I get to use it I'll be more than happy to give them $50 bucks.

Do you guys have the promotion code for that coupon. I submitted my email and did not receive an email from them. My warranty expires in May and these guys are much cheaper than my local dealer.

My original coupon code WAS for 75-dollars so I entered another E-Mail and it sent the SAME code to that address, but it said it was for 90 now.
So, I just processed mine and it came up for 90 Dollars off.

850 total for the 7-Year 75,000-Mile ZERO deductible plan.

Now I’m covered until March 15th 2009 !!!

I agree about the Tranny for the Slush-Box drivers, but there’s still tons of expensive stuff to go wrong with this car.

I bought the $0 deductible 6yr/100k Acura Care warranty when I bought the car. I think it was like $1,200. I figure for $20/month I will never have to worry about footing the bill for something that breaks. Also remember that if you sell the car before the warranty is up that can be a very good selling point and you'll most likely get some of the money back from it.
