Extended warranty
Extended warranty
I just recently bought a new car (03 Accord EX V6) and was wonder about buying the extended warranty. The vehicle comes w/ a 3yr/36k warranty standard. Would you buy the extended 7yr/100k warranty for $18/month for 60 months?
If the warranty is a Honda warranty, i.e., Honda is the company providing the coverage, then okay. If this is a warranty backed by another company than beware. These products are nothing more than money makers for the dealer. First, the extended warranty will not start until the Honda warranty expires. So first 3 years/36,000 miles can be subtracted from extended warranty. The remaining 4 years/64,000 miles of warranty is only going to cover manufacturer defects, the same as a new car warranty would cover. In all cases every manufacturer defect will have been discovered by the time you clock 36,000 miles. If you financed your car and included the warranty in with the loan add what ever the interest is to the cost of the warranty, this is not a good deal. I work for the Oregon State Insurance Division and have investigated and fined and/or revoked the business license of car dealers and warranty companies. It's one of the top five consumer complaints recorded by our division.
Hell, NO!!!!
First, do the math. You bought a Honda, didn't you? These guys are stellar at honoring complaints.
Second, I had a 94 GSR that I took in for an oil change. After waiting 90 minutes, I asked "what's up?" They said they were swapping out all four of my wheels for new ones because THEY didn't like the way my wheels looked. They were fine by me.
Third, they only offer this crap because they will make money off of it.
Fourth, I bought a 85 dodge daytona turbo, and did get the warranty because the car was used. I paid $500 for the extra protection. The warranty company (Borg Warner) in the next 12 months had to replace the entire power steering rack, catalytic converter, head gasket (twice, one blown head gasket, again when a valve seat dropped out of the head), cylinder head, and many others. BW probably ate $7,000 in warranty claims, and my portion did not exceed maybe $250.
But remember, you bought a HONDA, not a DODGE!

Yes.
Got the Bumper to bumper extended warranty, before they extented the tranny warranty. Hey with the rattles, it will come in handy. However I'm still on the original tranny at 33K. Keeping fingers cross.
