No. I don't usually keep cars long enough to make that decision when I buy a new car. I usually wait until near the end of the factory warranty to decide whether I'm keeping the car for a while or not. Then I make my decision about the extended warranty.

I was told that this was a one time, dealer offered incentive only available at time of purchase .. I dont think it was called extended warranty, it had a fancy name .. paid 999 for it, apparently down from 1500.

did I get ripped off, anybody?

Usually they are referred to as Service Plans or Service Contracts. I don't know if Acura has a fancier name for it. My understanding is that you can always opt for the extended warranty (service plan) after the fact. However, you usually have to pay more when you are further into the factory warranty. This was the case with my last car.

My boss is tight with the owner of Niello here in Sacramento. They took really good care of me on the purchase price and gave me the extended for $1000.At that price it's a steal imho.It doesn't take much anymore to spend that much, especially after 60 or 70k,especially the way most of us drive these things.
Just makes me want to hang onto it,also is a selling point if you do ever want to get out of it because they can be transferred.

ya, me too. I paid 999 for it .. I think they felt bad after robbing me blind selling me the CL-P w/o Navi for almost 31K. Then again, I'm told I had the first CL in Indiana ... not that that means anything.

I was think about it too. They made me an offer aounr $800 to $900 or so. I could not remember the exact price, but I did not get it. Now I realize I could of probably got it thrown into the deal for free with the purchase of my car. TOO LATE NOW FOR THAT.

Redrider,
Sorry to burst your bubble, but you got screwed ! My dealership wanted 1500. Then lowererd it to 1100.00. I went to my credit union AND bingo, they had the "exact" same plan, company honoring it for $739.00 for 100,000 mile ext. warranty, no deductable ! Sorry, but you didn't get a good deal.

Was this a certified "Acura Care" plan or a third party one ???

Shawn,
It had nothing to do with Acura. This was from my credit union, who by surprise, honored the SAME company as my dealership, except BIG difference in price ! I'm in the process of going to my credit union to pay off my pool and cars (CLS and Accord coupe) and minor credit cards and have one small payment ! Check with your local credit unions ! They have good interest rate and plans ! Stay the hell out of the dealerships, except the Service departments of course !

I won't buy one unless it says "Acura Care".
That is the only official warranty from Honda/Acura.

It’s not worth saving 300 dollars and having to deal with a third party company that may go belly-up before your plan expires.

amen to that... my fiancee is having "issues" with her extended warranty on her saturn, which isn't factory. frequently the warranty company tries to "cherry pick" the charges it will pay for, so it's always a hassle getting everything straight.

stupid stuff, too, like not wanting to replace the serpentine belt after warranty work on the cracked tensioner pulley, which is what destroyed the belt in the first place...

Does know of or have actually purchased an "Acura" backed extended warranty? The 3rd party contracts are dealing w/ outfits whose primary function is to make money .... yours. Acura focus would hopefully be a little more slanted toward their product reputation.
Anyone?

I got my 3-year extended warranty from my credit union where i finance the car for $325.

Buying it from the dealer is just like asking him to rip you off........

extended warranties are all bull shit. they are just like buying unnecessary insurance.
put your money in a treasury bill for 5 years and if you need a repair cash it in.

and if you need any work done on the car, that T-Bill won't be worth much. Even at 10% per year, a 1k tbill won't cover the cost to fix the navi system. It would just barely cover the passenger side seat sensors for the airbag system. May also not cover a broken heated power seat.
This US built Acura just doesn't have the build quality that my Japanese integra did.

yup, I do .. got it for $999. It usually sells for $1500, and as mentioned about anything under 1100 is a great deal. Especially since it is transferrable and can be sold

Dr says you don't have to come in for therapy.

Dr says person thinking that they can get 10% from T-Bills needs some sessions

That is not a factory warranty and does not have the benefits of the Acura Warranty. AND it will not cover as much stuff as the Acura warranty. I know, I had this type of warranty before.

But Red Rider did not get that good of a deal tho. I got the Acura 100K warranty for $800. And still got my CL for under invoice...

I got my "Acura Care" 100k miles, 5 year, 0 deductible for $770. That was $100 over the cost in the F & I (Finance and Insurance) guy's book. He is the one you close the deal with, hand money over to, at the end of the buying process (not the salesman). I also paid under invoice for my car.

I drive 20k a year. 5 year loan. 100k warranty from Acura. Works out pretty good. Buying an extended warranty is a gamble. It might pay off, it might not. Our 5 speed, Sport Shift, Made in Japan, fancy tranny was enough for me to get it.
Anyone know what one costs to replace? And from what I'm reading here, I got a great deal.

Funny you should ask. I just got finished typing in a post that said that with all of the tranny problems etc popping up I think that buyin the extended warranty was the best stupid thing I've ever done! I paid about 700$ for mine, though. That's why I didn't even think twice when I added it in. To me peace of mind up to 100K is worth it.

Plus, if I go to sell the car before it hits the century mark that is a great safety feature for the potential buyer to get a car that still has a warranty on it.

I didn't buy the extended warrenty with my car, but I checked at time of purchase and getting it now or getting it with 5 miles left on the original warrenty will cost exactly the same price. When the time comes and I still have the car I'll think about it then. I still have 2 1/2 years to decide.
