Experience w/ Progressive/Geico etc?

Has anybody had experience using one of the discount-type insurance companies? Just wondering if the cost savings comes w/ hassels in filing & settling claims etc. Thanks in advance

I have Progressive.

I got rear-ended (not my fault)... I took my car over to a Progressive office to have them get the ball rolling with the claim. I wanted them to contact the guys insurance company for me.

So, I brought with me an estimate of the damage. It was right at $1100 bucks. The claims guy said "Well, if we had to pay for this, we wouldn't pay for all of this work. There's no reason to blend the paint into the quarter-panels. There's no reason to do this much prep on a car for the minimal damage that has occured."

Progressive seems to have a rather limited number of body shops they'll deal with too. Customer Service has been AWESOME, but I'm concerned that if I cause a wreck, I may not get my car repaired like I'd want it to.

I will be shopping for a new insurance carrier once my premium is about to expire.

insurance companies like Gieco and Progressive have decent premiums if you have a really clean record and live in states whree they are the most competitive. Otherwise, even one speeding ticket will cost you an arm and a leg (for full coverage).

I worked at an insurance agency during my college days (my aunt owned the place), and the best ins. co. seem to be allstate and state farm. I have allstate, and i have 1 ticket for driving 56 in a 30 zone, but my premium didn't go up because they forgive a ticket if you have a clean record before.

but it also helps that I got insurance from the guy that my aunt trained about a decade back.

Can't say that Progressive or Geico are discount firms as they wanted several hundred more a year than my current agent, State Farm. They are decent though, customer service is great at Geico.

same with me. Their quote for me w/ 1 speeding ticket was over 60% more than what I'm paying. They said they weren't competitive in my area, that's why it was so expensive.

The guy almost shit when he heard how little i was paying for 6 months of the same coverage he quoted me.

I have Progressive. Geico wanted my first-born for a premium. I used to have Amica in MA, where everything's regulated. Amica's service was great. Progressive's has been ok. I'll switch back to Amica when I can. Title issues w/ my ex-wife on my lease make it difficult to go with Amica.

I just picked up my car from the bodyshop and Progressive seemed to come through a'ight. They tried to push me to one of their "preferred" shops, but I went to a place recommended to me by my buddy with a Supra TT that's been hit a few times. I haven't had much of a chance to really look at it yet, but the work seems good. The shop even got Progressive to pay directly, rather than paying AHFC and me jointly.

Geico completely covered the chick that hit my Viper causing damage 5 or 6 times the value of her clunker......so take that for what it's worth. Whether she still has insurance is a different story, with Geico anyway.

I have Allstate.

If you want the best insurance find out if you have close relatives in the military or government. if so, get them to get you on with USAA. They are hands down the best. Everytime I've needed them, they have been quick, fair, and easy to deal with. never a complaint or a problem.

Been with GEICO since early 1980s. For over nearly 20 years I have NEVER had any other insurance company. This despite dozens of speeding tickets, half dozen accidents (half my/no fault), three speeding tickets in the past 4 years I've been here in Kansas (see below). No surcharges, no premium increases. Only increases due to car/coverage changes.

GEICO has strict rules and specific details on how they calculate things and they publish them for you to know beforehand. After you become a "safe" driver, you're golden because there are several "forgiveness" programs for preferred members. I believe my rates are not high at all...about $1800 a year. And that included $0 deductible on glass and an extended Acura warranty to 100,000 miles.

I would recommend GEICO to anyone who can get it reasonably.

I don't mean to shout, but, STAY THE HELL COMPLETELY AWAY FROM GEICO! CHECK THE CAR AND DRIVER ARCHIVES ABOUT THIS BUNCH OF THUGS! THEY TAKE 10% OF WHAT THEY QUOTE YOU, TAKE THE MONEY, BUY RADAR/LIDAR GUNS AND DONATE THEM TO POLICE ALL OVER THE COUNTRY. THAT WAY, YOU PAY TO ENTRAP YOURSELF SO GEICO CAN RAISE YOUR PREMIUMS FOR SPEEDING TICKETS. Enough said, it is true.

try these guys:

www.greatamericaninsurance.com

Really good rates, and best of all they haven't checked my driving record in about a year. After 3 tickets I still have my 'safe driver' discount .
