Got a question for ya guys.

Just got my catback put on, sounds really good.

At around 3k its loud, then after that it gets A LOT quiter

Sounds pretty much like an CAI just a lilttle deeper.(After 4kish)

Anyone else experience this?

 

more than likely your CAI is drooning out your exhaust sound

 

I dunno about that, at 3k it is LOUD, I can feel it vibrate. After that it gets a LOT quiter, doesn't make any sense to me at all, I'd figure the faster your going the louder it would be.

 

It sounds like at 3k, the frequency of your exhaust is matching the resonant frequency of the interior of your car.

If you've ever had a system in your car, you might have heard a note that seemed much louder than any other tone played, thats the resonant frequency (the point at which your entire car vibrates more than any other time)

To stop the vibration, sound canceling materials work very well.

Oh and, you might notice that the sound is even louder with the windows down, or even cracked a small amount.

I'd invest in some dynomat.

 

Yeah, I don't mind it, I just want it to be Reverse :p I want it to be not as loud from idle to 3kish then open up at higher rpms /shrug

 

Ya mine does the same exact thing. Its right at 2800k it gets louder then quiet.. and then louder again around 5k vtec. Mods: aem cai, magnaflow exhaust

 

Ok, Atleast I am not insane

I have CAI, Greddy Sp 2 With custom piping, 3in pipe from Cat no resinator going into a 2 1/4 Y pipe. IT must just be the design of the system and the way that it flows. I am getting my headers put on in a day or 2, so we shall see how it affects it. Thanks

 

Could be something with the no resonator because i also have removed mine

 

interesting, Could someone with a cat back that kept the resonator chime in on this? Are you experiencing the same situation?
