Exhaust Question... Where are the experts?

Im looking into putting a catback exhaust on my TL-S, mainly looking for sound with a little gain in power, im doing headers later just want to get the exhaust done now. I have a question though, the stock exhaust system on our car goes like this from the headers back

Cat > Resonator > Split Pipe > 2X Mufflers

What if I did this to save money? Would it hinder my performance?

Cat > Resonator > Single In = Dual Out > Pipes /w Tips

Hope you guy's know what im trying to do here? I looked at the Magnaflow website and am looking into the single in dual out mufflers they have. I don't know the pipe diameter before the split into 2 pipes though.. does someone know?

Here is what im looking at.... http://www.magnaflow.com/02product/...one=main&id=632

Any help would be appreciated, thanks all and have a happy turkey day.... im stuffed

3" inlet is pretty big, plus i dont know if it would fit, without custom fab.....but the type S exhaust is already free flowing as it is stock. i mean you could probably try it if you want, but your not going to gain anything out of it besides the money out of your wallet. just get some headers, highflow cat, keep the stock res. or get a new res. and have the magnaflow 18432 custom fitted. piping bigger than 2 1/2 is pointless

plus this is the CL forum not TL

You're right... im just not used to my cars being so quiet, I think i'll unbolt the axle-back for now till I get some headers. Wonder if anyone has done this?

And where are you going to fit that muffler? The spare tire well is right in the middle.

Ok, i'll scrap the idea. Should I just remove my resonator and midmuffler? I hope it doesn't sound like a can without the resonator though.
