Yeah I know smitty is making a bolt-on...but that requires the removal of the cat...which us N/A guys desperatly need on until V-tech so we don't loose our little amount of torque.

In that case, sure you could move the cat and install a section with a cut-out. However, unless you do the work yourself or you know someone, often the muffler shop guys will not do this. You may also need to extend the HO2S2 wiring harness.

IMO, I perfer to hack into the Comptech A-Pipe versus the factory system. When I sell this car in a couple of years I will put it back to stock. Four years worth of driving on the Comptech piece would not bring very much $$ if any making the part irrellevant. I'll sell it as is as someone may want a cut-out. But leaves everything else alone and in great condition to sell the car.

Just an FYI, the unit is not sealing very well. It takes a couple of times to get it closed but slowly opens just a tad over time; enough to hear it. I'm going to try some of the fixes they mention for this and will report back.

At the worst I can pull it off in minutes and put in a bloacking plate. Then just put it in when heading to the track.

Re-torqueing the plate and checking alignment. Last one would be to use Red ATV sealant. It was the QTP unit.

I expect some decent gains as I am still going through the stock exhaust. Good point about the flames, that would suck for my passenger. :o

THE BEST DUMP ON THE MARKET

read the 2nd post down on PAGE 4 STEVE.. Click HERE .... looks like some forgot to do their homework...

well if worse comes to worse, just order one through Dave Hacker or Summit... he makes all the dumps for Summit... all the dumps you see on the market other than through Daves website or Summit are COPY-CAT dumps... I dunno anyone who carries a 4 yr warranty like Dave Hacker does.

I was aware of it. However, I needed 2.25" and imediately available. I never really planned on leaving it in all of the time so it is fine with me.

Thanks anyway though.

It should not but like I mentioned, mine has a leak which I will attempt to remedy. If I hold the switch closed it is as though the unit is not installed.

So stock piping is 2.0", correct? Sorry, I thought otherwise. Thanks for the link Smitty, I'll check it out.

EDIT: What's the pros/cons of installing this AFTER the cat?

Yes, the stock exhaust is 2.0 inch but I installed it on the Comptech header A-Pipe which is 2.25 inch.

The pro of installing after the cat is that there is plenty of room. The con is that you still have the catalytic converter in the way which further limits the potential.

This mod is more for the Supercharged guys than anyone else... but the N/A guys can have some fun with it...

rule of thumb:... if your making less than 350WHP, the dump should be after the cat. converter... if your making more that 350WHP, it should be before the cat.

Mind you we are doing this for 2 reasons... 1. The more air you ram into the motor, the more air that needs to come out.. exhaust gases are lazy. We are just trying to open up the exhaust so the gases get out quicker = more HP, loss of torque... Now mind you, we are driving FRONT wheel drive cars... so the loss of alittle torque is not going to kill us, it will actually help us off the line alittle better... <--all in theory...
2. We like waking up the neighbors..

Does the rear O2 sensor throw a CEL? Or are you running a sim steve?

I may go with DMH's 2" and fabricate my own cutout since there is no 2" cutout on the market.

Nope, because it is not open long enough. I beleive the ECU has to see limited cylcing of the HO2S2 for three warm up cycles before throwing a code. That or a defined time period which will be much longer than I would ever keep the cut-out open.

The Red RTV is working great right now. I can open and close it at will and there are no leaks. The question is how long will it hold up??
