Electric Cut-Out Installed

I had the cut out installed today. It is perfect for where I wanted it leaving all emissions controls in place. I didn’t have it wired up on the way home today but did quickly hook it up when I got home. I was idling in the garage and opened it up to a delightful rumble. When I tapped the throttle it erupted in a very wonderful roar.

This is just before the catalytic converter and is a custom set up. I need to clean up the wire routing in the morning. But once done I will take a couple of snap shots of the installation and will make a quick video (audio included of course) of it closed and opening.

I can't wait to try it on the road as I have to expect the 2.0" plumbing is a major restriction for me at this stage.

Got a decent one, that is how I took the low quality still pics a couple of years ago which people complained about.

But now I have the 1384 hook up allowing better video and audio input from the DV camera. Plus, I liked how I can control the camera from the PC.

OMFG!! I love the sound. Now go find out if it makes any performance difference. We'll settle for the butt dyno for now.

Damn that sucker sounds freaking mean.

Can't wait to see what kinda gains you see. And you still have the stock exhaust mufflers, right?

the path of least resistance is through the cut-out, so i'm sure 99.9% of the exhaust will go through it when it's open.

Butt dyno and maybe so G readings from the GTech Pro tomorrow. I am planning on being on the dyno next Saturday though for some real data.

True, but the pressure differential between the open portion and going through the catalytic converter with be much greater. This will cause the majority of the exhaust gases to flow through the cut-out.

Naw, this is not something I will be selling. There are sources available to provide the valve. Any muffler shop can install it in a similar fashion.

in that case we need to know where to get the parts and what fashion it needs to be installed.

That is also soon. Although I am not happy with the recent weather; it was reading 100 F on the highway today in my wife's Lexus, I will still try. So it is not the best time to go. I am working on getting the car ready and will make a track apperance soon.

I may make it out with soem turbo Regal guys or maybe with some other experienced guys who might be able to launch this FWD vehicle better than me.

I'm working on that one. I've got to make a run to pick up some bolts tomorrow with my engineering manager.

awesome man...I would do it in a heartbeat w/ an actuator that opens in v-tech but I just don't wanna cut into my comptech headers like that...any alternatives like moving the cat back six inches or so by cutting out a section on the factory b-pipe and then placing the electric opener infront of the cat and behind the headers????You could make this a bolt-up item and the only thing required would be a muffler shop to remove a section of the b-pipe.

Smitty is taking care of a bolt in solution.

http://www.acura-cl.com/forums/showthread.php?t=123814

I preferred cutting into the A-Pipe than touching the factory exhaust. The problem with moving the cat is that it violates emission laws in most states. However, to many that is irrelevant.

Below is a quick video I made this morning. I had to go out to a more rural area as I didn't want to scare people while they are out for a walk. As you can see the camera wasn't too happy about staying in place.

It was in the low 80's out and muggy as heck (started raining shortly after). I had about as good of traction as I can currently get; this is with fresh tires and were warmed up well.

I hope to be on the dyno next Saturday is possible. As for tires at the track, I am considering something sticky possibly on light weight rims. Gotta see though. I will hate going to the track at this time of year; it has been brutally hot lately... :o
