Easiest brake job ever

Just did the front pads for the first time myself, and I couldnt believe how fast they went. Didnt have to take the mounting bracket off, and the piston was really easy to compress. I think I had both sides done in like 30 mins, including a pop break.

BTW I went with Performance Friction Ceramic pads. $40 at Autozone, lifetime warranty, and they are DEFINITELY firmer than the stock ones that were on the car. Cant tell how much they dust, as I have black wheels on right now, but I doubt they will dust anymore than stock, if maybe even less.

Definitely an easy job, did backs a few months ago and the fronts maybe 2 months ago and I'd be surprised if it took 30 mins for either set.

Don't forget to check back in with an update on the brakes in a little while.

The only extra effort that has to be put forth on the back is that you have to undo the rear brake line bracket because you cant swing the caliper upwards.

Besides that, the front and the back are a piece of cake. I love it.

Joe, Did you change 'em cause the stocks were worn out ? If so, How many miles on your car ?

Just curious as to how long the stock pads last...

My stockers on the back went around 40k (passenger side only) and on the front at about 47-48k, again only the passenger side. Kind of stinks that one set of pads had another 10-15 easy on them, but oh well...also odd that the backs went first.

First car I ever had which burned through pads so quickly. My '95 GSR went about 80k highway miles before I did them (also about how long the stock tires lasted too )

If you haven't taken a good look at the pads recently, I recommend you do because I was shocked when I saw how little was left on the back.

Well the front pads were replaced at ~ 15k under warranty since they were 'tinging', and the rotors were turned for free. Also, I replaced the rears first since after a day at the road course they were done. The fronts lasted about 20k miles since the road course, which is very surprising, since they were SMOKING when I'd come back into the pits.

i changed mine at about 20K and now at 45K, i need to do them again!!!

this is why i'm considering an upgrade (at least rotors).

on previous cars, the brakes have lasted much longer

After driving to Florida, I replaced my front rotors and pads at about 62k. I bought the car used at 54k, so I don't know if they were original or not. The new rotors were warped again within a year, so I bought some all four cross-drilled & slotted rotors and ceramic pads. I didn't change the front left rotor/pads for a few months, because the retaining screws were stripped and I didn't have the time. What I did notice, was that the single wheel had so much brake dust while the other three that had ceramics didn't show shit for dust (never noticed any).

IMO, the ceramic pads work much better and they work excellent when firmly applied. I had to stop in the rain at 40mph and it took probably 15-20 feet without the ABS kicking in! I didn't think it would stop that quick until it happened...
