drove the new m3

all i have to say is holyshit man the car is really fast, its a lil tight in the cock pit for a tall person like myself, its real fast threw all the gears i am so jealous of the the raw power i would highly recommend this product.

I never was privileged enough to actually drive one, but a friend of mine at work has a new convertible M3. He drove me in it a few times. Definitely fast, as well as very nice inside. A little small, but not too bad. The only thing I didn't like which is worse in a convertible is the exhaust note. It sounds very metallic and just plain weird. I'll take it for the power though.

Interesting thing he told me. He had a 97 M3 coupe and said his old M3 felt faster. Maybe because this is a convertible and heavier?

No way the old M3 felt faster.
There is a HUGE difference between a 14 sec car and a 13 sec car.

Actually, the Convertible M3 is rated at approx. 0-60 in 5.4 seconds while the E36 '95-'99 M3 is rated at 5.5-5.6 seconds, not a big difference there. The hardtop M3 is rated at 4.7 seconds.

That's 0-60. Try the quarter mile. 14.1 at 97 versus 13.0 @ 110...BIG DIFFERENCE!

Sigh! I'd love to have one, if things were different. Like kids, money, etc.

Anyway, I'm sure it's a blast and I may tease myself and go drive one. You think if I drive up in a conservative car like an Acura they'll think I'm a potential buyer? :p

In an Acura, probably not. Hell, even if I drive up in my M3 they probably will laugh at me and just laugh me off the lot. I think the only way most let you drive it is if you put down a $500 deposit BEFORE the test drive. They said that to me around here when I wanted to test it. Then they told me that the dealership didn't own the car, BMW (Germany) owned the car and it was a loaner for them. They said that I'd have to do the following (which I think is just total BS!):

1. Put down $500 deposit and take a place on the list.
2. Give them a copy of my driver's license and insurance card.
3. Then they would fax that over to Germany and then I would have to await approval from Germany BMW.
4. Then a nice little 15 min. test drive.

I was thinking that if I had to go through all that crap, why only 15 min? Hell gimme the car for a day!!

Some dealerships just over glorify something worth $52k.

What I thought. It was like that when the last generation first came out. But after they started taking deliveries a couple of months later it wasn't a problem.

Wait a minute. I need to take my TLS over to the spot where I test drove the M3. And see if I can hit 115MPH before the railroad tracks just like I did with the M3. I remember the sales guy hanging on for dear life.
