drove new 2003 E500 last night....
oh my God... can i tell you guys, that new 2003 E500 is a beast.
my friend works for MBUSA in northern jersey... and he just picked up his new corporate lease.
the car is just sick.
he got it in black/charcoal leather.
fully loaded except the navigation.
light blue tinted windows.
my favorite feature is the 'keyless go'.
there's a transponder card that he carries... once he's
within the vicinity of the car, it unlocks.... and you can
start the car with the start button on top of the shift knob.
of course, you have to step on the brake when you push
down on the start button for a few seconds.
so damn high tech.... no wonder it's $66k.
the panoramic roof is pretty nice... looks very subtle on a
black car. there's a solar panel which powers the fans to
keep the cabin cool.
since it was brand smacking new... i did not step on it.
but the power is quite evident.... 302hp.
then again, he could care less... it's a lease. the break in period does not apply to my friend.
what a spoiled bastard.
i priced the E500 fully loaded... the lease was around $915/mo.
i can assure you, he does not pay anything near that.
one of the great perks of being a MB employee.
i think i'll send my resume there.
when i get my new digital camera... i'll take some detailed pics.
also, we're going to search for xenon bulbs to match the HID bi-xenon headlights for his parking lights and fog lights.
any suggestions???
the HID headlights are very WHITE.... not as blue as some initial pics portrayed.
sorry for the long story... but now i'm drooling over that car.

Yeah it's a sweet car. I drove a few of them on the Ride and Drive. One thing the Keyless Go Transponder is Built into the Key Now, so no longer necessary to hold a separte card like previous year. Also it doesn't unlock unless you hit the Door Handle.
But I love the car, its great. Nice thing about the MBUSA leasing for employees it that it's self insured through MB included in your lease.
I have the MB 2003 CLK 500 I love it

of course, he never handed the key over to me...
since he was sitting in the back seat, all i did was
jump in and start the car.
you're a lucky man for getting the CLK500.
my friend chose the 4 door E500 because it's much
more convenient when you haul around friends.
the MBUSA leasing program for employees is just crazy.
his group rate insurance through MB is not affected by
tickets or accidents.
so regardless of the number of tickets or accidents that
he receives... his insurance rate remains the same.
and for new jersey... that is a blessing!
mind you, he's been in two accidents with his first two benz's since he started working there. both the slk230 and clk430 were involved in accidents... one of which, was totaled.
his 2002 CLK430 was totaled, with 1200 miles on the odometer.
let's hope he doesn't crash this benz.

what sucks is that the new clk 55 aint getin the supercharger that he e 55 and sl 55 have, that is such bullshit, can you imagine a clk w/ 480 hp, thats a z06 killer for sure, in motor trend the sl 55 out accelerated a modena spyder that weight nearly 1000 lbs less
