Driveshaft seal leak????

I have had a minor oil leak now for a couple of years that has left hundreds of stains on my driveway. Each run back and forth to work or whatever is good for a couple of drops. I replaced my second auto tranny (130K) recently and they did the rear main seal. The leaks though continue and my mechanic claims it is most likely a driveshaft seal leak. The oil leak is dripping off the bottom of the tranny casing

I also have brown antifreeze in my radiator and I see stains around where the hose meets the thermostat housing. He claims that where the housing connects to the head is leaking and it is a big buck replacement. I don't really trust the guys at the shop.

The guy I deal with says the posts on Acurazine are misleading. He says he knows better......... I had a hot start issue 3 years ago that he could not diagnose that I had solved through my brothers here at this site.

Any observations would be greatly appreciated......

To establish a visual, does the claimed leak area correspond with the area of #9 GASKET, FR. WATER PASSAGE and its mate #8 PASSAGE, WATER at the front head?

brown antifreeze usually = corrosion or oil in it.

driveshaft seals can be replaced easily if you can remove the shaft...

If it is a driveshaft seal then it is leaking from where the axles go in to the trans. Period.. No exceptions

I find it hard u have the identical leak though, considering u got another trans. The odds of having a very similar/identical leak is slim to non.

Anti freeze can go brownish over time..

If u do in fact have the same leak I would think the auto shop lied about a new trans, likely rebuilt it doing as little as possible... Put it back in and then u would have the same leak.

Did u see the trans before it went in? Or....

I put the orange premixed in my car and after a year or 2 it looks brownISH.

The stains u see are likely from them working on ur car they removed the hose, it pools their dries and becomes a stain. Unless u see rad fluid coming out somewhere? They should have drained the coolant from the bottom of the radiator then nothing much could leak out.

The rad hose could also have a small leak ie pin hole and it would drip down and pool their also. I have a stain there on my car and its cause my OBX rad hoses actually allow coolant to seep into them and then it SLOWLY oozes out the seam at the end, and dries to form a browny orange sludge.

Sooooooo minute tho I don't even Check the fluid level.

Hopefully that helps chief
