People who drive Pontiacs?

So i'm driving home, and i get stuck behind a school bus. Some local punk with his 90 something stock (except for some very tasteful "killer bee" stickers and a coffee can exhaust) Grand Am or Prix or whatever (i couldn't quite tell what it was the thing was so dirty) was in front of me, just behind the bus.

The bus pulls off to the side to let us by, and i give the CL-S the usual throttle. And Mr. Bee decides that he wants to go fast. I keep up with him with no trouble at all. We're on empty back roads, BTW.

After 30 seconds or so, we get to some nice curves. He barely stays on the road, obviously unable to drive his car properly - probably thinking that more throttle = he wins (we weren't going more than 60 or 65; i could have kept my mom's station wagon in the correct lane in this situation). We get to a flat stretch, i drop a gear with the sport shift and just BLOW past him. Then as i go over a hill, a Jeep in the other lane flashes his lights at me. I slow to the speed limit. About 10 seconds later Buzzy swerves around me. I chuckle, because, at least around here, when someone flashes his lights at you he's telling you there's a cop ahead.

As i go around the next turn, here's the "KILLER BEE" on the shoulder with a shiny police cruiser behind him. I went by at about 10mph and gave him a giant grin.

I want to find the driver of that jeep so i can thank him for saving me $100 and a point or two on my liscense.

As a whole, nobody has pissed me off more than grand prix and firebird drivers. There's even a lot of "hooked up" (laughs to himself) sunfires around here. Total lack of class and respect, in my experience.

You can't lump EVERYONE who drives a particualar type of car together into one stereotype.

I know plenty of really nice guys AND girls who drive Pontiacs...I also know a few dicks who drive Acuras...and Nissans...and Chevys and BMWs...and...you get the idea.

BTW - It is pretty cool that you got that kid busted, maybe he'll learn not to drive like such a hardass.

I ran against a late 90's Gran Prix this morning on my way to work. Took him by like 3 or 4 cars before the next light.

I don't think it was a GTP though..

WTF?? My mother drives a Ponitac and I have owned a few myself! Dude, don't stereotype it's not cool. Every car line has it's share of dickheads, including the Acura CL.

Ya, there almost as bad as those darn old fart Buick drivers!!!

Like others have posted above, it doesn't matter what make you drive, there are a-holes driving everything from Acuras to Yugos(Sorry, couldn't think of a "Z" manufacturer).

That reminds me, there are only two kinds of drivers, idiots and a-holes. The idiots drive too slow and won't get out of the way of the wreckless A-holes.

I know, it was a sarcastic comment. Although i've yet to meet a person who doesn't drive like a dick in their Pontiac, i do know several pontiac drivers who are nice guys/girls. I just have some weird bias against the cars - i've never really liked them. I don't have a good reason for it, other than stupid kids like this one, but still - that doesn't excuse stereotyping. Then again, it was a comment made in jest, so no offense meant.

I bet you'd hate them even more when you come up against one that will leave you in his wake. An Acura losing to a PONTIAC??? HAHAHAHA!!

FWIW...I've been seeing this same CLs 6-speed in traffic on my way home from work everyday for a couple weeks now. He seems very determined to show me how fast his car is and has had a couple chances to get lined up with me but avoids it like the plague. Once the lane next to me was open and this guy coulda taken it but instead stayed behind me. Another time we were taking a right onto a 4 lane highway and instead of waiting for me to get next to him and start something he guns it 1/2 way through the turn and takes off....no way I'm starting a race from behind. Dicks in cars piss you off, pussies in cars piss me off.

let me start by saying i'm not pulling for Pontiac but Pontiac has came a long way from the mid-early 80's They used to be a kind of sporty Buick. now they are practical car sporty car with decent quality. My soon to be wife will probably getting a Grand Prix GT in about a month or 2 and I know it's not a Accord or CL but it's still a nice car

This was a back road near M-36 (which is really 8 or 9 mile, but about 50 miles west of Detroit).

I'd love to have a meet at Milan. A friend of mine has a nice Vette he's been taking there fairly regularly, and i have been meaning to ask him if he'd mind helping me get my feet wet (I've never actually been there except to watch some top fuels several years ago). I've noticed quite a few MI peeps on here, so i think it'd be a blast.

15.2 stock in a Grand AM GT....I'm gonna have to pull out the ol for that one.

EDIT: THE BS HAS BEEN CONFIRMED
http://www.grandamgt.com/forum/showt...%2F4+mile+time

He claims he ran 15.3 with an intake over there...and that's a little bit quick...most are running high 15s at 87-88mph.

Maybe that's because most Pontiac owners don't know how to drive?

You're going to Milan in the spring anyways, eh? We can all go together and run mutsangs vs CL's. I'll bring some other GTs and cobras so you can see how well your CL holds up. I can probably get a Mach1, an '03 Cobra and a GT... You bring your ride and whatever other fixed up CL's you want... should be fun.

Just because the BS was posted on the Grand Am site means that it is true? Or are you saying that it was confirmed as BS???

Whatever.

If we can keep it friendly, sounds good. But if anyone (CL or 'stang owners) turns this into some lame ass "my dick is bigger than yours" type thing, I'll be heading home.

I agree... what's not to keep friendly anyways. I'm an enthusiast of cars, and think it would be cool to see some of the other cars out there. I'll try to get my other friend with a gutted B16c1 civic to run... he claims it's good for 13's? We'll see...

Oh and furthermore, the size of your dick has no relevance to me in this discussion or any other.

Just read the auto section of the Sunday paper and they reviewed the 04 Grad Prix. Two models, GT (3.8L V-6, @200hp)and GTP(3.8L V-6 SC @260hp).

Looks like us stock CL-S owners have to be on the lookout. Any dyno figures on the Grand Prix GTP? I'm thinking the American auto makers still haven't figured out how to get all that HP to the wheels yet.

very very true....for those that are unnaware....the 98-03 GTPs (which were rated at 240 hp) consistantly dynoed stock around 200 (much like the CL-S which is rated at 260)...so that right there shows its the imports that have problems putting down decent numbers stock..the new GTP, which has 280 lbs of torque (to the CL-S 232) has 260 hp....id expect to see about 210 hp and 235-240 tq. at the wheels on these new GTPs

Im just curious where all these "fast" GTP's are?? Ive been told there are some fast one's out there, but i saw one at the track this past weekend with some mods that couldnt hardly break into the 14's...it looked cool with a ram air hood, but it just wasnt that fast......

a stock GTP (97-03) does mid-high 14's stock....regardless of sedan or coupe model...

ive seen a personal freind run his 98 stock GTP a consistant day of racing the 1/4 mile at 14.5@96...allllll day long.....

last november, johntypes, roell, and myself went down to union grove with our CL-S's. there were about 15-20 GTP's there.....EVERY SINGLE ONE was running 13's or less...some were in low 12's. the fast GTP's are out there.....trust me.

Hey Zootking

I was kind of thinking the same thing. Every single CL-S I've gotten a run from at a traffic light has been sloooooow. I hear a lot of revs but no motion.

I don't see too many. But when I'm looking for one, I always know where to find them. They are in my rearview mirror somewhere.

All in good fun folks.
:flamer: I know what's coming now. :flamer:
