Don't buy OBX Ceramic headers!!!

Just a fair warning to those who are contemplating the ceramic headers, DON'T DO IT! The quality of the coating is shit and without a doubt, OBX has really pissed me off
I was gonna get stainless and thought what the hell, I'll be different and get the ceramic headers. One day after my headers got delivered, I see pix showing the ceramic coating peeling off. I hope and pray it was b/c of the problems the installer had w/ that install and it won't happen to me--wrong, they are starting to look like shit. I purposely did not drive my car all weekend (Fri install day to Tues) hoping to bed the header coating in gradually.

And just for those of you w/ CT headers, please resist the urge to say I told you so b/c that's the last fawkin' thing I need to hear right now.

BTW-I love the performance outta the headers, just waiting for coating to peel off and voila, stainless headers. In process of writing a nastygram to OBX. If need be, I'll just bring a claim against them if they don't replace the headers. It certainly would not be hard for me to cost them 3-5K in legal fees if they get porky.

 OBX

Did noone read my last post on the subject? Call OBX...they'll tell you to get a hold of SSAutochrome. Show them pics and they will send you a replacement...then when you receive it, send them yours back and viola! They DO warranty their goods. Dunno why the ceramic is sho sh*tty...still needs further investigating before I really make my decision.

and obx has also been around for a long time, this is not the first set of headers that they have made, they make parts for lots of cars and if they were faulty they would be out of buisness by now. As he said its the coating, the performance is there just there is a small problem.

BTW...I'm not saying one is better than the other...but hypothetically...if both applications are just coatings, then why not go for ceramic (if it doesnt flake of course) cuz then at the very least the headers wont change in color, and it would be much easier to trouble shoot if/when they start to crack since you'd be able to see the soot better.

OMFG!!! All I hear from most of you OBX headers guys is that the price is right (which it is) and CT can suck your dick....so why don't you all cry me a river.....the bottom line is...you cant beat the price...if it lasts it lasts....

It's funny how some of you love to bring up "you get what you pay for" when it's utterly irrelevant to the situation many OBX buyers were in:

It was not a choice between CT headers and OBX headers. Anyone who could afford either would buy the CTs because they are clearly better quality products.

There is no choice here except between stock manifolds and OBX headers.

Not to mention even CT headers, as nice as they are, are not worth $1000.

So get over yourselves. Thanks.

Did everyone that has this problem buy from SS Autochrome? Maybe they just received a bad batch of headers...

Also, if they do flake, is it safe to drive until they get replaced? Just asking since I have a set sitting in my house waiting to be installed.

I asked kindly for no flames and no stupid ass CT remarks but alas, some of you are incapable of understanding the english language. I wrote the letter to tell ppl of the problems to warn them. I could afford to buy 50 sets of Ct headers right now if I felt like it, what I can afford and what I'm willing to part with are two entirely different subjects. I don't give a fuck what they look like AFTER the shit peels off, who's gonna look? I'm not and I doubt highly anyone else is either. It's not going in shows w/ mirrors underneath for everyone to see the underside so who the fuck cares? Again, the guy who should care most, doesn't. I know some of you are more concerned about this more than me and wanted to warn you. I did say that I was pleased, make that highly pleased, with HOW they work and that is the barometer for the intent of my purchase of headers that cost less than half of CT's and if all else goes to shit, I can still buy/install another set cheaper than 1 set of CT's. If I'm not very much mistaken, the OBX headers produce slightly more power than the CT's at the upper end, so draw your own conclusions.

JRock, I wouldn't pay for a large diamond either (DeBeers holds on to a gillion and one gems to create an artificial market by slowly releasing them to the marketplace).

However, you are the other part of the problem. You have been "hassling" people over spending too much for too little performance and how the Comptech's are not worth $1000 and other dissertations.

There are people that will pay a thousand bucks a rim to HRE and other vendors to get something they want.

I get that YOU don't think they are worth $1000. And that is YOUR opinion -- period! Quibbleland indeed!

IMO, the list of "not worth $xxx" items could go on for 10,000 pages -- this just gets silly...

I think it's time to buy you a "Just Say NO to Comptech" T-shirt!

When is this country will learn from the fact that some got raped and didn't even know it? There is nothing wrong with SS OBX...there is something wrong with trying to justify the cost of Comptech by paying 3x more for prettier welding.

And yes, I've heard of stuffing 10 lbs of DENSE sh*t into a 5lb bag (of feather)...and yes it'll fit with room for you to spare.

CT owner has been around driving Ferrari's. They want to thank to all the loyal supporters for the funding the newly summer mansion in South Beach, Miami that they badly needed so bad.

I'm tempted to let it fly, OTOH, if I can cause enough headaches for them, maybe they won't sell these ceramic headers to some unsuspecting person, ie-take 'em off the market.

Right, just as much as it's only that OTHER person's opinion that they are worthwhile, period. I've seen enough shitting on people who don't have or want or can't afford CT headers, from people who are doing just what you think I'm doing, hence my post. Don't act like I'm starting this, I'm just responding.

I think it's time to buy you a "Just Say NO to Comptech" T-shirt!
Why? I like Comptech parts. I just don't find the headers to be worth the price. Or the exhaust. But that's just based on the rest of the aftermarket mod market. Common sense will tell you they're overpricing those parts, but if you* can afford them more power to you. Just don't go shitting on everyone else who can't afford them or doesn't want them.

*you != EricL, because EricL isn't one of the people acting like a prick.

I gave up

I dunno fellows, I gave up bitchin.... I guess I am getting old now in my days....26 is old right? Anyways, I just hate to see you guys have to keep taking headers on and off as if you were changing light bulbs... It is disturbing to see a fellow Cl-er get a shitty part and have to go through the hassel of contacting the company, swapping parts and sending the shit back... Sooner or later your gonna have 1000 dollars invested in headers if you keep it up...
