Question Does the clock have a back light? Just got an 03 CL-Type S

Hey Everyone,

I am new to the board. I just got a 2003 3.2 CL Type S (A/T) last week and I don't think I will ever own a domestic car again. This car just rocks!

I was wondering if the clock in the dash is supposed to have a back light?

That is the only part of my dash that doesn't light up when the lights are on and it is kind of annoying so I was wondering if the came from the factory with a light (and thus I need to look into fixing it) or if i am just SOL due to a lack of design.

This is my first time on the board and I didn't see this (minor) issue on any other threads.

Thanks.

Thank you. I will now have to look into fixing that.

As for the modding, YES let it begin. Here is what I plan on getting (in order)

1. Getting Toyo Proxies put on in the morning.
2. Getting a radar detector (a must have for this car. most likely an 8500 or v1)
3. Going to get the AEM v2 CAI
4. Going to Tint the windows to legal limit (no smoke just std tint).
5. Going to replace the grill w/ the black one

Anything after this is really a ways off but I can see the upgraded headers coming down the pipe. Also I will look to replace the suspension when it begins to wear (car has 54k on it now).

Thanks for the info.

Any tips / mods are welcome suggestions.

For more power...hmmm.

Headers (like you said)
AEM V2 will not fit the Type-S (http://www.aempower.com/ViewProduct.aspx?ProductID=1076) But do get a CAI. A lot of people seem to like the Comptech Icebox because it's quieter, but I like noise so I went with AEM CAI.
Crank Pulley
IM and TB spacers
Mugen cooling mods
Get chipped
And then if you want to go crazy, go boosted or juiced, or both.

well shoot I didn't know I couldn't do that (the v2). I think I will go with AEM CAI. I agree with you, I'd rather be careful with the water and enjoy the sounds of the car.

Yeah it's supposed to light up at all times. That's why it dies. I'd rather have it only light when the lights are on.

try whacking the dash around the clock once or twice first. i used to have to do that with mine until the light actually burned out.

It's really a hassle for just one bulb really, though It really would get to me not knowing what time it is when I'm driving at night.

I would actually pay to fix that a lot quicker than other things. I need to be able to know what time it is when I'm driving and I do a lot of night time driving.

I wish the HU had a clock. The navi system has 1. If mines does burn out, I don't really care way too much involved to replace that 1 bulb. I have a watch & a cell phone & a clock on my Ipod. I think I can do.

Is the clock light considered a warranty item?

If your under warranty then yes. No warranty left then no.

the bulb itself is like 7 bucks from the dealership. If you want them to instal it they are going to charge you close to $100 for their time.

my bulb blew out on my 03 and not having the clock lit at night became a pain in the ass so I changed it myself. It's honestly alot easier than you think, I was a little overwelmed by reading the instructions but it only took me about 20 minutes to complete and it was my first time ever removing a dash

The strangest thing happened with my bulb. When I first got my CL S I noticed the backlight didn't work in the clock either, then all of a sudden I turned the ignition on and the backlight was on.

Why didn't they just make the stereo tell you the time? So much space is devoted to the clock.

Thanks for the info on the change over. I wanted to do it my self but since it seem kind of involved, I was thinking about taking it to the dealer. However, after hearing that they want 100$, I think I will just follow you instructions and do it my self.

It is really annoying not knowing what time it is at night so I will be fixing this really quickly.

On a side note, I just got new ToYo Proxies on my car today. Rock on! I'll have to check them out tonight.
