I'm used to shutting off the A/C in my Honda Prelude whenever I want to gun it. While flooring it with the A/C on you could definetely feel the power loss, and if you shut it off while flooring it you could feel the extra power surge.

This is not the case with the CL-S. I never feel any difference b/w the A/C on or off when I floor it. A service manager told me that in the CL'S/TL's the compressor shuts down temporarily when at WOT. This would make sense given my findings, plus I'm sure it would be a safety feature to preserve the very expensive compressor from extra strain.

Anyone know for sure if this is the case with our cars???

yeah, i hear ya about the prelude-it was a completely diff car with the a/c on (slow by comparison).
i rarely turn the a/c off in the ESS. i don't really notice a break in power, either-don't know if it shuts off like you asked about tho
