DIY:road lamps into HID fogs
I really wish someone would put this in the DIY section
There are 2 parts to this first is the modification to the housing 2nd is the wiring
Supplies
1, HID Kit $60
( HIDXTRA https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=723872 )
2, 4 wire connectors $1
3, 2 small scres $1
4, duct tape $6
5, electrical tape $2
BTW Total $70.00
tools
1, drill
2, 2" bit
3, 5/32 bit
4, screw drivers
1st part
1,
take out the housing there is one screw holding it in this screw is acessable throught the lower grille, if you look at the fog light from the lower grille you will see it, then it just pops out ( used a flat head screw driver and a rag to pop it out.
2,
this is where people get a little squeemish but I asure you, you canot see it at all and it does not affect light out put
take a 2" drill bit and drill two large holes over the top of the fog light housing directly above where the bulb sits ( this is how I got around the heat problem)
3
The bulb install, I used H7s for the bulbs, I drilled a small hole in the lip of the hid bulb and into where the lip that is on the housing, then put a small screw , throught the bulb lip into the housing
2nd part
1, start with the harder side the passengers side , Cut the three wires going into the old bulb, one is red,one is red and one is black (thats right two red I thought this was weird then I relized that they wired the headlight and road lamp as one circuit "kind of")
any ways attach the two red wires toghether and attach those 2 red wires to the positive on the HID, then attach the black wire to the negative on HID.
the passenger side is the same except there in only one red wire.
2 plug it all in and your done
I attached my ballast to the bottom of the bumper with one srew , I also suggest wrapping it in a sh## load of Duct tape just to be safe especialy if it not water proof

Thanks for posting that Mr. Fluffy! I'm planning on doing a HID foglight of some sort as my first mod project for my CL. One question I have is how the light comes out of the road light, I mean does it have a good pattern or is it all over the place? I'm wondering because the road lights just come with that 5w bulb, so I'm thinking that the reflector inside isn't really designed to throw a real bright light out of it. I just don't want to end up throwing light all over the place and have people flashing me cause they think I have my brights on.
My other thought is to buy a projector light kit like this one:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...AQ:MOTORS:1123
They take H3 bulbs and they are all metal, they even say that they are HID kit ready. Assuming they'd fit in the space where the road lights are, I'd take out the road lights and fabricate a mounting piece to surround these lights to fit in the space where the road lights are now.

That is a really good price im thinking of doing projector hid high beams
I think I have siad this before but my thought on the light pattern is that, I believe by the way it is designed and the way I find it lights up the road, acura made it for a normal bulb and then when it came for the final cuts in the manufactoring budget it didnt make the cut. so the light pattern is good just like a normal fog light, it lights up the ground and too the sides.
I have never got high beemed in the 2 years Ive had them( except by my brother but thats because he hates my head lights and hes a Jack ass) because they are not focused up in people eyes and there great for counrty roads when you need to see animals on the side of the road

Dont waste your money on those. The output sucks.
Ill take some pics tonight (or at least try to) of my fogs. With any luck I should be installing them this weekend.

lol i just did my calculations for the $ i've spent on mods. excluding rims $2810
And i've SAVED $1720 through getting free stuff (for presents or working on my buddys car) but most of it ($1000) was due to finding deal on this forum.
I luvvvv AZINE
I want an azine stick to go over the 3rd brake light (since I have the spoiler) since that light is for show anyways. I want one that covers the whole thing and then cut out is Acurazine.com.
would be nice is silver

wont the hid bulbs lose life, because they are in fogs?
why i ask?
when you lock or unlock it makes the hids blink (fogs or roadlamps). i thought this is bad for the hid kit.. is this true?
i am a 03 acura cl-s with accord fogs that is relayed to the corner lights
any comments will help ty!

Mine Is probably going to be different because its an 01 type s but I do remeber its red and black
I would wire it to an ignition wire with a switch so when you turn the car on the lights go on unless the swich is off
The best way to do this is find a fuse that is on when the car is on(dash lights is good) and wire it to your switch and then your existing relay

Whats with the hole on top?

Thats a big hole, lol. You realize that HID's put out less heat than Halogens. They wouldn't melt that housing if you left them on all day.
I'm curious though, how you mounted the bulbs to the housing? You said you used screws, but you can't see them in the picture. Either way you did a great job man!

Do you mean the corner lights? I just did LED corner lights and I thought they were going to be the same color as stock HIDs ( 4300k) but then ended up being the same as my fogs (8000k) but they look way better than orange. the guy I ordered from sucked because they are suppose to be dual filiment and they were not. But Im doing a new mod for my front signal lights once my parts come in !! Im still not sure if I will post it thou
any ways here you go you have to be very carefull when pre drilling this that you dont hit the bulb , and find the smallest screw you can. you only need one, It works really well too because this is my second set of bulbs first was 6000k but I got in to a minor accident involving snow ripping off my bumper and one of my ballast flying over a bridge so I had to replace it and it was really easy
Oh and very important the bulbs are H3s not H7s if some one could edit my first post

Just be carfull and use the smallest screw you can
and there are no moisture issues I think one reason is its not a sealed unit and there is a bumper over it so they seem fine and, we got a lot of rain this year !!! and even if it does get moisture in it I think the heat of tthe HID would evaporate it ?!
