There is a thread on this somewhere. There's a product called Goo Gone. Don't know where u would get that in CA tho. I also remember that a few coats of wax helped to blend things in after all the glue was gone.

I used Goof-off... Any strong adhesive remover or paint thinner should be able to take care of it... Then some polish to the area to even things out.

They make an automotive goo-gone formula. I've used it on my car before. It works great.

If there is still glue on the trunk, here is what i recomend, it's what i did, worked for me. Depending on how much sun your car has had you may see a slight difference in paint shade, but it should blend with a good few weeks of warm sun.

1. Wash the area well with car soap, a little more concentrated than you would use if just washing the car. Keep the bucket for later.
2. Dry off the area around where you'll be working.
3. I personaly used some 99% alcohol to get my glue off, goof off or some similar will work, never used it so don't know if it works better or not. Use some cotton balls, get them pretty wet w/ the alcohol, and start going to town. I took my time, used a lot of cotton balls and elbow grease(when one starts collecting gunk, use a new one). I used about 15 cotton balls for the 3.2 Cl and ACURA badges. When i was done i was left with a perfectly smooth surface, no outline.
4. Wash the trunk again like you would if you were washing the car. (i personally took this time to wash my entire car,, why not)
5. Dry well.
6. Use a paint polish on the areas you worked on. Then follow it w/ 2 coats of wax.(or one, whatever you feel like).
7.De badge done!

If their is an outline after nine months, then it's just little mars in the paint, probably from all the years of gunk building up in there. Who knows how dirty that cars trunk could have been under the care of the previous owner. If there SUPER bad, hey, at least you have an outline already in place to put em back on. Or just paint the trunk.

edit: BTW, i'd go w/ no fuckin way on the MEK, .

also used a bit of adhesive remover (goo gone) and finished whatever dirt was left with an extremely light polish (beleive i used megs swirl remover and an orange pad) -- followed by a coat of wax

Paint looked new, and no remnant of any dirt whatsoever
