Why don't our clocks adjust themselves? In the setup screen you can choose your time zone, so if it doesn't adjust itself what is the point? I would think that they can hook our clocks up the satallite and get accurate time info.

What about the Acura-CLs with Navi that are in Hawaii, Arizona, or Indiana?

All GPS units (Acura Navi included) have the same "problem".

I don't understand why can we select the time zone if it doesn't do anything. Maybe it is for driving across the country??????

It is a small price to pay. Hit setup and your back on track with nanosecond accuracy.

The other problem concerns the inaccuracy in the non-ground corrected version of GPS that we have.

What if a person was between daylight and non-daylight savings areas by 20 feet? The jitter in the commercial band signal could have the "user" in one state, then another from moment to moment -- what a mess!

Side note, we are having a very "hot" solar cycle at the moment and there have been a number of warnings about loss of HF communications due to sunspot activity. Don't be alarmed if you see "minimal" satellite coverage over the next few days.

Didn't your time change accordingly when you hit the setup screen?

Yeah but thats not the point. I was hoping it would do it for me. My $100 vcr knows how to change the time by itself.

I don't have a navigation unit in my car but I bet it has something to do with planning a trip that crosses time zones.

It also doesn't move around much. Or does it? That's the point, the car needs to be flexible and YOU know where you are.

If your house was sitting between two time zones, which one should the car pick?

Then move the car 2 feet. Get it?

With an error of 50 feet or more, wouldn't you be annoyed if it constantly changed time zones depending on where you parked in your driveway?

Bull. A VCR could never know where it is located in order to change the time.

Perhaps you are being fooled into believing that your VCR is smart when all it is doing is this:

If date='April 1, 2000' and today='Sunday'
then time = time + 1-hour
endif

Take your VCR to California (3 time zones away) and see if it's still "smart".

Your right, but I really dislike absolutes. Who knows, maybe someone will put in a $2 GPS chip in some future version of a video playback/whatever unit...

TRUE, they don’t know where they are, but the cable company sends out a signal that automatically adjusts the time.

Some of the TV’s/VCR's I have do this, and some don’t have that feature.

Our navi's don't know what day it is... so therefore that Pacific/Mountain/Eastern time zone buttons are not for daylight savings.

But if you travel across a time zone the clock will automatically subtract/add an hour etc... get it?
