DASH RATTLE SOLUTION!!!! -- Finally, I located it and fixed it!!
After almost one year of bitching and griping about the freakin' dash rattle, i finally--FINALLY located what was causing it and it was so easy to fix!!!!
A little history: After buying this TypeS, I was estatic cause I finally own a luxo-sport car. Awesome. But I have these freakin' annoying rattles, it's just made me bitter. The passenger seat rattle (which is temporarily fix with something stuck in-between the back and bottom cushion), the muffler rattle/mis alignment (which is fixed too), the sunroof (which is fixed), instrument cluster (below it, still not fixed...not that bad rattle anyway), and the infamous front dash rattle (somewhere in the dash...)
Well, looking at all the rattle rants on this site didn't help much. I originally thought it was the fuse box in the engine compartment...Shawn S helped me a great deal!!! But it ain't that. Next was WebToker's example of the rattle (outside--where the wiper's were--no go..not it).
This front dash rattle occurs when going over heavy bumps or uneven pavement. It drives me nuts when i hear it because it sounds like something tapping against the body of the car or the hood or just somewhere in the dash. I spent about 6 months in misery trying to locate it.
If you have what I have, then here is the cause of the annoying rattle. It is not IN THE DASH! It is not even close to the dash. IT IS THE FREAKIN' HOOD. Here is how I found out and the solution is here:
If you put your hands and fingers where I pointed out AND YOU ARE ABLE TO MOVE THE HOOD SO SLIGHTLY and there is a sound when you do so, then you may have the identical problem I have. It's so easy to fix. Just turn those knobs/rubber stops in each corner in the front and that'll adjust the hood. It's the hood hinge and latch component acting up. When it's adjusted higher, the hood hinge won't bump into the latch when closed anymore...just try to move the hood up and down after the adjustments.
I drove over bumps, freeway dividers, uneven pavements, just about everyday road conditions...and the rattle is NO MORE!!!!
I had someone move the hood up and down for me while i sat in the car..and it made the same freakin' rattle/sound. After solving this rattle, I'm so freakin' happy now!! This car is finally finally rattle FREE as it should've been from day 1. I'm so glad I found out what it was and now I fixed everything myself...the dealer woulda took forever.
Hope this helps some of you who has the same problem as I do. No need to turn up the radio anymore!!!
Bye!

omigosh...i won't be able to fix that til i get home this weekend but thank you so much for finding that rattle...i've also got the passenger seat rattle...is that an easy fix as well or should i take it in to the dealer? thanks again!
Man you are the best. I have been looking for that damn rattle for the last 6 months. I can't wait to get out of work and fix it. Now the only one I have left is the sunroof squeek ARGHHH. Thanks
No car is perfect (Hope My 2002 CL-S will be) . My friend has a 1998 Rustange, when he turned the back sounded like it was creeking and it was going to twist apart. Took it to ford and had it fixed in 3 days but they had to take a shitload of stuff apart to fix it. So a little rattle happens, as long as it is not like the frame is going to snap in 2

Yes, that hood looseness seems to be a common issue. Mine too has been loose and rattles. I adjusted it similarly to you. Now on to fix my new annoying rattle which seems to be in the passenger mirror/sunshield...fix one, another one seems to appear...

Holy shit, you were on a quest!
Glad to hear that you got rid of it.
My rear deck where the subwoofer sits rattles like crazy, especially with my subs on. I'm gonna take it apart and dynamat the hell out of the whole thing.

Its cwazy... either way, if you open your hood and look on both sides (left and right near the headlights on the rad support), you will see 2 rubber adjusting things that you can screw in and screw out. turn then counter clockwise and you will notice that they are coming out a bit.
