CV joints and stuff

My first gen is making a clicking/clunking noise when I turn to the right. Then I started smelling kind of a burning smell. So I drove to the dealer and dropped it off. I am waiting for them to call me monday morning to see what the prob is. Do you guys think it could be the half shaft or cv boots? How much is this gonna cost. This sucks.

i've had this problem not with my CL but with my '93 Infiniti G20...my right front CV boot was cracked and needed to b replaced...it never gave me a burnt smell or anything, nor did it clunk...sounds like there's rubbing somewhere when u turn right...it doesn't sound like metal grinding, which is good...given the info u've provided, there could b a few issues...im sure they'll diagnose the problem once they get it on a lift and examine thoroughly

yeah that's your CV joint alright. If it is, then it will be around $300 because they might try and replace both the front and the back.

the service manager just called and said that it was the wheel bearings. She said it would be $370 to replace.
Also, she said I needed a new timing belt which would be $450.
Then she said new brakes and I didnt even ask how much. Do these price seems legit for a first gen?

i just had my rear brakes replaced, they also turned the rotors to smooth them out. and it came to 190.

In my last car (92 diamante) you couldnt just buy a new bulb if the headlight burnt out, it was a sealed unit, 300 bucks for a burnt out light.

Is it a 3.0 or 2.2 / 2.3? Cause if its a 3.0, it should have 100k miles before you need a timimg belt or plugs. If a 2.2 or 2.3, I'm not sure but I thought honda/Acura was making all VTECs that way.

BTW - I believe the 3.0 has a timing CHAIN - not a belt, hence its ability for the 100k tune-up interval.

As for brakes, I tried doing my own, and the rear brakes are IMPOSSIBLE to do yourself, IMHO. The fronts were pretty easy once I got the caliper off, but the rear was worth paying Acura to do.
