custom double din in oem nav location (upper dash)

entirely possible, quite a bit of modification required. unit is an Alpine IVA-W505 (from 2008), so it is very old in terms of technology. i don't recommend canadians doing this cause the climate controls do not change to celsius, contrary to what i thought (the programming must be in the climate unit itself).

NO DIY, cause this really isn't a DIY thing. you have to cut the centre vents, cut the lower radio brackets, etc etc etc. however, if you have the time, you can try it. i did all the work myself, no prior experience (other than taking the console apart)

nope that's how i wanted it. you can do whatever you like, but since this is a DVD player as well, the screen has to move out a certain amount and pivot so that you can place the dvd inside. i made the trim ring flush to the dash though.

I was gonna ask the same thing. I guess I don't really mess with them ever but still weird not having the option.

unfortunately if you use the navi climate control unit, you HAVE to install the OEM screen to go with it. otherwise even the computer can't control the vents. i noticed this because my feet were getting really cold, which was unusual. also, the front windshield defogger button doesn't work without the screen either. basically, the vents are stuck in the position they were last in.

i actually use it a lot. i like to turn off A/C when i don't need it, and while i don't use vent control that much, it's still handy in the winter

It's been posted here and ghetto old 1999 GPS with a new unit looks stupid. It's like having an Atari screen and a XBOX 360 screen in your car.
