Custom CAI, well kinda...

Ok so I decided to make my own intake. I went and purchased a AEM intake for an Accord and cut of about 12 inches of it. Worked out great. The sound its really nice. Sounds like a V8 almost. Here are some pictures, but beware they are not small images. I will be taking my car to the track tommorrow to run a few 1/4 miles. I will post my time slips.

Webtoker...

The photos will look better and load faster if you save them as JPEGs.

Great pics though!!

Webtoker, do you have the K&N Filter at the end? How come you left the box in for the tube to go into? What did you use to cut your pipe?

It looks fine..hope to hear about the 1/4 times.

Yes it has a K&N air filter at the end. The reason I left it there, or should I say put it back, was because it made things fit more secure and just overall worked out better. I used a hacksaw to cut it. Wasn't hard, just took a while because I tried a few configurations. Where you see the black tubing that comes out from the engine into the CAI, I tried to use the other part of the CAI but it just didn't look right and overall was kind of out of place.

Very nice setup. I didn’t know that the body had a hole in front of the wheel well for the air intake. I guess your K&N filter extends through this hole? That would definitely draw cool air! I wonder why other systems don't do that?

Me too I have anoter question... It seems make a custom CAI from ground is not a complicated deal after all.

Buy a K&N cone filter, AEM valve, got and "chromed pipe outlet", let them band the tube for you weld the attachement to the frame and do the installtation as webtoker did. What is complicated about?

------------------
Bare Bone Stock Type-S. Plenty of accessories. PIAA 19169 to be installed soon.

Got tired of waiting, huh?! Looks nice, good pics. Let us know how it performs.

I am still going with Xephyr, like you all I am tired of the crap with no info. But I checked this morning and the UPS is in transit to DFW right now, so it will be at my door soon. If it wasn't in transit, I would be like you and make my own. As much as I hate to say it. Xephyr needed to keep us better informed about what was going on. We will see how it performs and how easy the install is when it gets here. I am still unbiased about any of the CAI's out there. They will all do basically the same thing...so I will still do a write up after the install is done.

WebToker,

Can You take a picture of the bottom to see where exactly the filter goes?

Thanks,

Spiro

I think he is asking for photoshopped pics of a silver debadged Type S, instead of a red one like you have.

I know they're real. How difficult would it be to make your car silver?

Mine is closed. Its huge too, I had to bring it in from the fender and guide the pipe up though the hole.
