Cup Holder in 03 Rattling

Must be the week for cup holder posts...My cup holder makes this awfull rattle. Anyone else have this problem? How do I take out the cup holder? The cup holder looks to be molded into the console. It is split down the middle like it was made in 2 pieces. When I put pressue on the cupholder the noise stops.

Thanks

It clips into the front part of the assembly. Just pull it out away from you (or, away from the center console).

I believe he is referring to the fact that the cup holder looks like it is split.

Mine only rattles when stuff is sitting in it, like a soda or something. I use a napkin under the bottle to resolve this problem.

Mine rattles all the time. It actually rattle slightly less with things in it. Do I need to take off the silver trim and remove any screws to take it out?? It does not just pull out! Or at least it sure does not want to come out.

I havent taken it out, but to get inside that console area you need to remove the side trim piece. Grab it by the end at the center console and just pull up it will pop right off. There are screws in there, you might need to remove some, but im not sure. I would just say remove the trim and side panel and look in there and you should get an idea of how to do it.

The cupholder itself is attached to the console piece that has the switches for the heated seats in it. You will need to remove the trim pieces first buy pulling up and back on them with the armrest hinged up. Pull the parking brake up. Then loosen the screws that you can see, lift up the console piece that the parking brake comes up through and the cupholder will come up with it. Unplug the switch (heated seats). Then you can see a small brass colored screw that holds the cup holder to the flat console piece. This is right next to the handbrake. You will need to losen that screw to separate them. Next, you will need to unplug the wire to the 12 Volt accessory outlet in the console. That wire runs through a hole in the bottom of the cupholder. It is held by retainer clips to the inside surface of the back console. While doing all of this, watch what you are doing, and you may find that it's as simple as a loose scew and you will need to go no further. If neccesary, the rear console can be easily removed by 2 screws in the bottom (under the carpet that lies at the bottom of the storage compartment) and 2 screws in the front of the rear console (the ones that are on top and were hidden by the trim). When you take these out, simple pull back on the console to pull it out, then disconnect the wiring harness on the hand brake side. You may have to lift up on the back of the console just a bit when doing this. You will not need to remove the screws along the lower side of this part of the console, and you should not have to remove the vinyl padded sides of the console either. I hope this helps.

Fixed my cup holder rattle today. What was causing the rattle on mine was the cup holder rubbing on the trim piece above it. I put a thin piece of rubber tape between the 2 pieces and now it's nice and quiet. I thought I had some other rattles but the car is totally quiet over bumps now. I took the whole thing apart as described by kid_dr but you may be able to fix it by just sticking a piece of cloth or something under the trim piece at the front of the cup holder. This is where the rattle was coming from on mine. I also thought that it would be from the 2 pieces of the cup holder but these were very tight on my car.
