Sounds like you got off better than you could have. What is a restricted license? Daytime Only? Glad to hear your NOT behind bars or picking up litter off the side of the road in an orange blazer.

I went to traffic school in LA once (well, actually, quite a few times. I have a masters in traffic school) and then showed us how it would be cheaper to take a cab from San Francisco to Los Angeles drunk than it would be to get a ticket for DWI. $2500 is the average as well as increased insurance costs. Let's be careful out there.

Looks like you got off pretty good, congratulations. I remember the same thing once in traffic court when I agreed with the DA to drop a speeding ticket: all I had to do was step in front of the mic and say "Yes, I agree, Your Honor". And then out the door and on my way....

6 points are better than 6 months in jail!

you need some means of alternate transportation:

maybe, one of these

Thats not to bad anything on your record... Will it say anything about the DWI. I would pay anything not to have those three letters..

I go to court on 7/31 for hitting the old bag... I hope I have the same luck as you..

Ahhhh, you'll be alright!! I thought you meant to take her out. Shit, accidents happen. She broke her wrist though. Hmmm. Insurance should take care of ya! No biggie. My sophmore year in High School ('93) I got into a nasty accident completely my fault (thank you very much), and got sued the day before the three year dead-line is up to bring charges on people. TOTAL bitch move, she claimed carpel-tunnel....UGH. Anyhow, insurance totally took care of me. Hey, that's what they're for. Plus, it's not like your a mean cold hearted fool looking to nail old peeple with your 30K car!!! Bring the judge coolies and milk too!!

Hey, joe,

what about points on your license?? did your lawyer at least bargain it down to reckless instead of DUI??This happened to me several months ago but my lawyer won the case for me cuz the officer didn't have the probable cause to pulled me over..Hope you learn your lesson, i know i have eventhough i got off from the DUI charge but i still had to pay for the lawyer fee which still cost $500. Good luck..

And One thing I did learn is

NOVA,

I'm glad you got off easy...but let's all remember that DWIs are not something to laugh and fool around about. Most people know someone who's been killed, paralized or seriously injured by a drunk driver, yet that fails to deter many from having the extra drinks and then driving home.

Imagine how it would feel to actually KILL someone else, or injur someone to where they'll never be the same again - someone that has friends, a family, maybe kids, parents, coworkers, etc. It would be tough living with that for the rest of your life. Not to mention that many states are now charging DWI offenders who kill with murder, or manslaughter at the least. It's something serious that everyone should consider.

That being said, I hope you'll get everything straightened out, NOVA, and that insurance won't be too hard on you.

Cheers

Btw guys I think he forgot to mention the SIX POINTS added to his license for the next ten years.

Now it doesn't seem so easy (higher insurance, closer to loss-of-license-due-to-point-total, etc).

Still, he got off easy for the violations he was charged with. People have lost their licenses for years for lesser things. And the "closer to loss-of-license because of point total" doesn't wash, because NOVA should realize now that he's got to be careful. He doesn't have the luxury of speeding because of this, but at least he still has the luxury/privilege of driving. There are consequences to every action, and you have to be willing to accept them. If you're not willing, then you shouldn't race, speed, run lights, etc.

Considering the circumstances, I'd be happy with the outcome. Things could have been a hell of a lot worse. And before you say anything, I did try to help NOVA out with some legal advice, which was basically to get a lawyer that specializes in traffic cases since this was a complex situation. He would have been up a creek without a paddle if he didn't.

Your driver's license gives you the *privilege* to drive, not a *right* to speed or otherwise break traffic laws. Yes, some of them might not be logical, but that doesn't mean you can violate them. Work within the system to get them changed. And I have had tickets myself, so I'm no angel.

Heres an easy way to save yourself the hassle of going to traffic school. http://www.onlinetraffic.com/

Its like $30 for the 4 hour course and you can just leave your computer on and walk away come back in 4 hours answer some commonsense questions and they mail you your certificate. Thats what I did when I got my ticket.

I ran a red light at an intersection and got hit by an S-10. Ran into a Tree, totalled my truck and broke my right Femur. All with no seatbelt on.

My ticket? $3 and traffic school. No points
