I've posted 2 threads in the past couple of months asking if any members had trouble with their '03 automatic transmissions. So far, not 1 Member has come forward to complain. I know the statement from Acura said "some" 2003's" might fail, but it appears that the problem might have been fixed.

my dad works for Honda of America( Anna Engine Plant)(AEP), he said for the 03 CLs and TLs (which were the main 2 with nukeing trannys) they redesigned the transmissions. matter of fact if you have a one go in under warrenty they bolt in a 03 transmission because there was a design flaw in the 01(?) and 02. from what i've heard the shavings from a "pack"(which is a part in the transmission) bearing was grinding against the bearing which caused metal shavings(i know duh) this went down into the ATF oil pump and it would clog the intake part which would nuke the tranny

A good handful of 03 TLS have had the tranny die on them.

Hey Water, that's interesting. I have 2 - 2003's and no problem as yet on either.

You may be right Smitty. What's the average mileage for the breakdown?

Not sure of the average. Some have failed with less than 5k. I think some members a pushing 75k with no problems. The mileage is too diverse.

I would actually go out on a limb to say that I've read almost as many '03 failures as the original 00-02 TL's. Some are failing with very low miles, some in the 10k-20k range, etc. There's no real pattern yet.... but there are definitely failures on the 2003's.....

Didn't the 2003 CL's and the 2003 TL's debut at different times this year??

I believe so...

AND, an excerpt from the Honda site that has the warranty extension anouncement:

"Vehicles covered by the extended warranty include:

* 2000 - 2001 Honda Accord, Odyssey and Prelude
* 2000 - 2002 and some 2003 Acura 3.2 TL
* 2001 - 2002 and some 2003 Acura 3.2 CL

..."

Honda Warranty Extension News Link

Perhaps a tally of people with BOTH 2003 TLS and CLS vehicles THAT are being refused the warranty extension by build date and/or VIN might be useful.

I believe they were released within a month of each other.... so close in fact that they're both covered in the same way regarding the tranny extension....

When mine started giving me problems, i took it in, and they tried 3 (!!!) different '01 trannies, and none of them worked. They even replaced the ecu, but no go. Finally they gave up and used an '03 tranny, and it runs like silk, and shifts better than the even the first one [knock on wood].
