Constat rev????

I just got back into town from the holiday break, and I get into my CLS and let it warm up, and about 1 to 2 min into warming up the vehicle automatically keeps reving to 2000 rpm then back to 1000 rpms, and the check engine light is on??? What the hell is goin on!! I have a appointment to take the vehicle in thurs. Has anyone on here had this issue, and is there a easy fix or does it need to be taken in to a mechanic. What a good way to start 08!!

Yea I can rev it by myself, but it automatically keeps reving when I have it in park to 2000rpms, and when I am in D5? What is the maf sensor, and is it expensive to fix?

Most likely a bad idle air control valve, fairly common. It's at the throttle body (underneath it if I remember right) and can be removed and cleaned i think. BTW my code said TPS bad Throttle position Sensor, but my tech said no its the IAC valve, he was right. Bad IAC can throw a TPS code on a scan tool. It is not a hard job.

Well I hope that it is just a simple fix like that, should I let a tech fix the problem? Appreciate the info.

Well some good news, but I think I am gonna let a professional deal with this situation. Also when I had to drive the vehicle, I get up to speed to say about 50 and the speed limit is 45,and I have to let off the throttle, it has a sudden jerk!! At first I thought it was the tranny about to go again! I will fill you guys in on the results after I get the problem resolved.

Which sensors? I'm having exactly the same problem as you are. Any info would be much appreciated!

If your having issues with the rpm jumping up and down most likely its just the IAC. Clean the IAC valve and put it back on. and see if the problem goes away. It takes less than 30 min to do.

Ok, I went out to my car and got my paperwork for the service that I had done. The paperwork states that it was a a faulty IAC valve, and map sensor, and clear codes. In my opinion I would take your vehicle to a certified mechanic and have them repair this problem professionaly, you cant just clean the IAC valve, and waaaa laaa the problem is fixed. It was a pretty expensive repair for these two parts, because they coeinsided with each other, so both will need to be replaced if you are having the same frustrating problem. Hope this helps!!
