Comptech Supercharger

After reading all these comments on the new SC coming out, I've got one question.

Whats the widest tire you can put on a CLS? Also, if it isn't 245/x/x or wider, isn't this going to cause a traction problem with all that HP and Torque?

Just an observation. What do you think?

seems like a front wheel drive car with that much hp and torque will have traction issues anyway. we'll just have to look to the guys with s/c maximas and gtps for guidance...

Doesn't the CLS only support up to 225/xx/xx? I thought one member had 245/xx/xx, but did he have to roll the lip some more?

I dunno.

there are at least some folks running around with 235s (at least they were) so I don't think the limit is 225.

besides, if you're already spending the big bucks for the s/c and assorted bits, as well as a fancy set of wide rims, rolling the lips won't be a big deal either, right?

I'm running 235x45 w/o rubbing and comptech springs.

Technique is running 245x40 w/o ctech springs. I don't believe he had to roll his fender.

GTP guy to the rescue!

ANyway, regarding traction issues. Every day driving NO, no traction issues. That is if you drive like a sane person. If you nail it every time, I suggest a fund set aside for new tires every month! Also, the 17X7 CL-S wheels can take up to a 245 wide tire. The GTX I had came with 17X7 rims and had a 235 tire on it and could accomodate a 245 as well. Just make sure you offset the height of the tire enough to not have too much of a speedometer error. I believe with 245 you's need a 45 tire as well.

Oh and I do want to add as I think I missed the point of the question. At the track, forget about traction. You'll have none. I highly suggest Nitto Drag Radials at least and if you can afford it Slicks with light weight rims. At the track with that much power to maximize traction you'd want as little weight as possible in the back, therefore, tire, amp, etc. removal would be a necessity. Also, I'd recomend looking into spring block to prevent butt sag when launching to keep as MUCH weight forward and to prevent any of it from transfering to the rear. It takes a lot of practice with the GTP to find the sweet spot to launch at the track. No nailing it. I'd say easing to 100% throttle over a period of 1.5 seconds or so. Less than that and you put on a good smoke show.....

Upgrading to beefier brakes to me would
be just as important.
