Comptech Headers - with or without Comptech Exhaust?

I am planning to get Comptech headers within the next 60 days. At this point I've only contacted one local shop to get pricing info, and during the discussion the rep recommended the Comptech exhaust to go along with the headers. Buying the exhaust would add over 50% more to the total cost of buying just the headers.

My question to those who have done the Comptech header upgrade without the upgrading the exhaust as well: any plans to upgrade the exhaust, if so why? To those that have upgraded both the headers and the exhaust, did you notice any significant performance gains and do you believe it is worth the $$$?

The comptech exhaust is told to only give an extra 2-5 hp at most. So it really isn't worth it IMO. I dont think anyone that has headers has gotten the exhaust system too...not worth it I think.

The guy is trying to rip you off...

With some cars it may be worth it to get both...

But the CL Type-S already has a free flowing exhaust system... an axle-back setup like Comptech really cant improve flow anymore.

If it was a cat-back setup.... you MIGHT be able to get a decent increase in exhaust flow... but not with the Comptechs.

Just get the headers... if your gonna get an exhaust... it will be for looks only.

I agree with soopa just get the headers. The CT exhaust only gives slightly increase in hp, and IMO it's only for looks and sound. I would suggest get the headers then the rest of your money spend it on springs, struts, and sway. Then you got car with more power and solid handling...

To his credit, the one sales rep I spoke with did specifically suggest a cat-back exhaust (but did not mention that Comptech's was axle-back). I have to admit I am ignorant what's the difference between axle-back exhaust and cat-back?

NSX4DR dynoed his TL, before & after Comptech exhaust with no other mods. The results were a 13 HP gain. This was done at a professional speed shop with professional equipment.

This could be realistic for gains on a TL or CL-P and the Comptech exhaust is probably a good mod for these models, however as soopa wrote above, the CL-S has _already_ a free flowing exhaust. So installing a Comptech exhaust on the CL-S will not show the same gains, if any.

If I remember correctly, Comptech claimed that the 27hp increase you get from their headers and exhaust on a CL-S breaks down as follows...

headers... 25hp
exhaust... 2hp

you do the math! $575 for 2hp... umm.... no thanks!

I have only headers and I'm completely satisfied w/ the power. I personally don't like to get a aftermarket exhaust cause of the loud noise you get all the time. Esp during long distance driving it'll drive me crazy. Plus like everyone said the comptech only gives 2 to 3 hp and itz really not worth 500-600 dollars. I instead invested in a K&N drop in filter for 60 dollars and this claims to give about 5 hp.

Comptech Headers, Comptech Sways, Eurolite Xenon Crystal high beams.
AEM CAI once they decide to make the dame thing.
235/40/17's or 225/45/17's once I found out which one works for me.

They mean exactly what their called.

Axle-backs (like Comptech) are exhausts that are modified from the rear axle of the car... back.

A cat-back is a whole new exhaust from the Catalytic Convertor back.

Nobody makes a CL-S specific cat-back exhaust but there are TL/Accord V6 cat-backs that, i hear, can be easily modified to fit the CL-S.

Thanks for all the feedback, guys. I'll definitely stick with the headers only.

I think we have exhausted this topic.
