Comptech Exhaust are INTRUSIVE

I have a TL-S and i bought used CL-S CT exhaust off this board...and they are LOUD aroung 2000 RPM under load? Anyone else getting this "noise" or is it just me? The noise penatrates deep into the cabin...these are my first performance mufflers so i don't know how they are suppose to sound...this think it's prettly loud. I drive my car around 2000 RPM alot and i don't know how you guys can drive with such noise. Or did I do something wrong? I don't know the torque spec. so i just tighten up as hard as i can. Exhaust leak?

I was planing to install my OBX headers...but it will make my problem worse...i'm hearing that there are resonating problems around 2800 RPM? It's reported on the CL-S, anyone heard if any TL-S have the same problem? What does resonance sound like? Is it like when you're driving at 40 MPH and have a window open half way and it makes that "pulsating" noise?

CT Exhaust look great but they are loud, i went and ordered the CT Quiet Tip Inserts, i hope that helps!

If ppl dont get a louder deeper noise at 2000 RPM , would it be cool with anyone from Orange County who have CT Exhaust that i stop by there place to listen to their exhaust? thanks

the inserts will cure the "problem"

what you are experiencing is normal. one word of advice, stay out of D5 unless you are going 75 +.

i like the way they sound

Yea that sound drove me crazy as well, you can buy the quiet tips for them that comptech makes. It will kill that noise.

Kill the noise, but loose the power as well..so might as well stay with stock...you get better power than the crippled Comptech exhaust but better power.

power? Please show me where you got this info, cuz aftermarket exhausts (axle back) show MAYBE a 2hp gain. But thats it.

Comptech is basicly just for looks and sound.

Yes the “droning” noise is the main reason I don’t have them on my car.
I’ve considered picking up a used set from the Black Market here on several occasions, but decided not to.
I hear they’re a pain in ASS to keep looking shiny too.

So if they look like the stock mufflers in a couple of months and sound annoying without offering any noticeable power increase, what’s the point?

Everyone says that CT exhaust will give you a more aggreesive, nice sound...well it's aggressive alright. I didn't think it would be that aggressive. I didn't but the exhaust for the power alone, it was suppose to be combined with the intake and headers...to complete the whole intake - exhaust system....i guess i just have to deal with the noise...

I agree! That's why I don't have them.

I wouldn't mind if the droning occured at 3K RPM or above..but common...at crusing speeds....it's almost constant...the only time i don't hear it is when i'm going downhill and i'm not pressing the gas, but other then that...it's just a "tad" too loud. I live in a nice quite neighborhood..i usually go get a midnight snack around 2-3 am. everynight and now i'm hesitatant to go because i'm afried i'll wake them up.

Well, a little story for you.

Way back when I accidentally order the TL exhaust for my CL and they stuck out way too far. So, I had to sell them. At first, the noise was strange and a bit disturbing, but then I put the stocks back on and couldn't take the lack of noise.

So, long story short, I ordered the correct exhaust and have been 100% happy since then. It's nice to be able to give it a little gas and scare people wlaking down the middle of parking lot rows etc.

And actually, the tips are incredibly easy to keep shiny. I don't know where that came from.

The nice part about the quiet tips is that you can remove them in less than a minute and be back to that nice rumble when the need arises.

I think the noise is subjective.

I too get the "droning" at 2000rpm as everyone does... however, after about one week of having them installed... I barely notice it... and when I do.. it just makes me smile b/c they sound so sweet. And I drive about 70-75 miles round trip every day... mostly highway.. so I'm in that 2000-2500RPM range most of the time.

Personally I think the quiet tips are a waste. If you don't like the exhausts, sell them. Spending that money on the exhausts... then another $20 to defeat their purpose doesn't make much sense. The only thing you would have is looks.. but honestly.. the stock CL-S exhausts are nice anyway.

I bought them for looks. So the $40 I spent on the quiet tips was money well spent. Plus if I want the sound, I just remove them.

i think the inserts will be just what you want...im not so sure it's the low resonant 2000 rpm anyone wanted out of these cans...when you get on they sound great ...the quiet tip should all but eliminate the res, maintain full performance and,and still have the benefits of a great looking exhaust and nice sound for more spirited driving

The droning of Comptech exhaust is NOTHING compared to the piece of shit Focuz catback I had on my Accord V6. If you think Comptech exhaust is loud, then take a ride with someone using Apex'i N1 exhaust in a Civic or Integra, then you'll think your Comptechs is a luxury. My Focuz exhaust exceeded 95dB and needed loud stereo to drown it out.

If you don't want the noise -> go back to stock
If you want the power -> go to Comptech with no inserts
If you want the look -> get some nice exhaust tips
If you want best of both worlds -> you CAN'T

The power you gain from Comptech exhaust with inserts is almost nothing and relatively the same as stock. You either have extra power or lose power for the luxury you want. You don't see quiet race cars on the track do you? It's like saying you want a turbo and have the same reliability as stock.

I agree with everything you wrote except what's quoted above.... the Comptech exhausts give you about 1-3hp MAX gain. If you insert the tips the number may drop to 0-1hp.... but either way it's not really a big loss since it's not a big gain to begin with.

The biggest exhaust gain I've seen on this car is the HKS exhausts. Someone dynoed it at 6hp gain....

I bought the Dragers used and sold them to another member because of the droning. Thought I'd get used to it after a couple of months but it was still pretty annoying.

Well, I've only seen that one dyno for the HKS. The dynos for the Comptech are usually 2-4hp... so it's not that big of difference.

I don't know guys, I don't think the hp is gain much anyway from the exhausts. Not so that you would feel it, anyway.

The reason why the Comptech exhausts make all that noise is the resonating tips (see little holes in tip). The quiet tip inserts cover the resonators making it less loud. I got sick of the droning at 2000-2500 rpm, that's why I have the inserts. I really dig the sound driving around town without the inserts, but it gets really old on the highway.

Had my exhaust custom made (Mandrel Bent 2.75) went with a inline resonator (Close to stock type) then magna flows...looks good, still quiet...and a whole 3 H.P. on the dyno...lol Was it worth it?...you bet! LOOKS KILLER and UN-STOCK and just a tiny bit louder...with no annoying humm. ricey rice rice
