Comptech or AEM????
Hey guys, just wondering if you think there will be a BIG difference between the Comptech CAI(when it comes out) and the AEM CAI.

Comptech won't be done for a while. They said on the site that it will be done when the supercharger is done. I'm going to wait for the Comptech. Meanwhile, i'll get a K&N or a Comptech filter.

I think a CAI along the lines of the AEM design is the best performance you're gonna get from any intake modifications. You're basically ramming outside temp. air into your engine. I don't think that cooling or heating up air will make a big performance factor..

Go ahead and get the AEM. Why wait on the Comptech??? Chances are it will also cost more, and provide the exact same performance.
An intake is an intake. I'm ordering my AEM this monday.

True Just would feel more comfortable knowing it came from comptech. I guess it depends. Will have to take a look at the design and see what other people say.

'icebox' intakes usually have an area where you can put ice cubes in order to cool down the intake air. it makes sense when your making runs, it will help your times by a few tenths of a second. but its useless if your a normal street driver.
the comptech also looks better and probably puts out less hissing noises
id get get the aem. youll be here for another year before the comptech is released

The AEM delivers all that one should expect from an air intake, there are pretty much pioneers, (look how many other filters used thier designed bypass value). Why wait a year for a part that WILL be more expensive and can not possibly yield much more performance than the reasonable and should I mention availible AEM CAI? Now a supercharger, that's the stuff dreams are made of

I hear what you are saying BUT just because am is the best now doesn't mean that Comptech can't come up with something better.
SC would be nice but the more that i think about it the more i think that it might be best suited for the 6speedCLS and not what we have. That's alot of power to put to the FWD car. Close to 340 horse might be alot for the CV joint and the auto tranny to handle. If you get the entire package for the car to function at it's peak. SC, headers, CAI, Fuel Pressure Regulator....that's like 8g's worth of work. That's not even considering what if any work will have to be done on the tranny. Might be more cost effective to get turbo with an intercooler. Not sure why Comptech doesn't develop one. I mentioned it on the site and MikeB said that it raises heat issues. Wait and see I guess.

Get the AEM intake now, and then the CompTech later next year when it comes out.

It'll be nice to see what the Comptech looks like. Although it terms of performance all CAIs should be in the same horsepower range right?

i did the install myself. the instructions that the aem cai came with were horrible. if you do a search here, there are very good installation instructions as well as pictures. also, i am not mechanically adept so it was a little difficult. but after driving with the cai and hearing it roar, it was all worth it.
