Competition Clutch Round 2

Competition Clutch Round 2
Competition Clutch still has not finished the clutch and pressure plate and he needs another push. The last time I mentioned this, https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=179334, just about everyone emailed him showing interest. So much interest that he sounded motivated to R&D our clutch.
The time has come again to give him a nudge to show that the interest is strong for an aftermarket Pressure Plate/Clutch flywheel package. Even if you don't have a 6 spd, you never know, you may get one in the future, I'd email him anyway. Here is his email address, fire away. chris@competitionclutch.com.

just a piece of useful information. I have a 3rd gen tl w/ 6sp. I have the cl-s clutch and flywheel. The flywheel fits right in. It is different, though. The outer edge of it, right before the ring gear, has little rectangle dowels pressed in for some kind of sensor-flywheel position sensor i think. Thunderhill team removed these for a further weight reduction in the tl, and as a precautionary clearance issue.. Theres 8 of them and they probably weigh about 6-10 ounces each. 16 ounces in a pound, you do the math. Opportunity for competition clutch, I think so!

That's good to know Joe. The larger the market, the better it is for Competition Clutch. There are some 3G TL's throwing down some good power nowdays

Thanks for the input Joe, those pins I believe are associated with the speed sensor. On the CL, there are 12 trigger mechanizms and they are not dowl pin inserts. I always wondered what the difference was.
anyone who has emailed competitionclutch, if you have a moment, send me a pm, as i'd like to get an idea of the interest. cheers.

I called competionclutch and it seems the phone calls and emails are having it's desired effect. I am promised that a kit will be available and that a flywheel should be out in 45 days then the pressure plate and disk. They are leaning more towards the accord v6 6spd apparently because they emailed the hell out of him, I posted on that board that if I mention the name, I'll be chastised by the bully patrol.
To all that have responded by sending emails and making a phone call, thanks.
Anyone who hasn't called or emailed or both, it can only help. Lets keep the push going for a few more days. Cheers.

Greetings ThinJim, Having just purchased Essarak Huot's unused Lite weight Comptech Clutch package for my CL-S (2003), I have more than just a passing interest in this pressure plate upgrade!! I am ready to buy such a product YESTERDAY!!! Hope you will advance the phone number of Chris at Competionclutch here so I can purchase or follow its production. Also, does the S/C need to be removed to facilitate transmission removal?
Regards, sq.

That was a good deal on his flywheel, you'll love it with the SC'r. I'd have to say yes to the SC removal. Here is the 800 number. Ask for Chris Jewel. Keep the pressure up.

Thank you, ThinJim>>>>>>Just talked with Chris at competitionclutch clutch. He said 60 - 75 days within 3 months should do it. What a GREAT FIND!!! That is bad news on required tranny removal. It is definitely a HI-DOLLAR MOD. >>>>> Best Regards, sq.

Hey I am new. I need a clutch bad. My car has over 100k miles on it and the clutch has maybe 2000 left. I don't know if I can wait 60 to 90 to whatever days. Is the Spec brand Clutch and pressure plate a good setup for the CL? I am leaning toward a stage 2 Kit on my stock car, but it's out of warrantee and I plan on some mods in the future.
What do you think?

Did anyone get an email about this clutch from someone named Melissa at Comptech Clutches? I got an email last night regarding the clutch. Her email title is listed as the director of Marketing & Events. The email reads......
"The prototype is still currently under development and I have heard from the R&D department it will probably be ready during the later half of September. Please be assured we are working hard to keep the 6-8 month deadline we had promised in April. As soon as I have more information to provide, I will send out another e-mail."

and BTW, FYI Essarak runs with Spec clutch, (dunno if that includes a PP?) so there's more clutches out there...
just e-mailed Chris too. let's pressure them to make us pressure plates.

Yeah, I got the email also. I also spoke with Chris, not the owner, last weekend but only breifly but am in weekly contact with them for the most part. I'd say keep the pressure up but be tactful. This is an expensive development on their part.
In regards to esarek using the spec clutch, that's cool. Here's a bit of info I have been able to gather. I spoke with a Spec vendor in the northeast a few weeks back as I am getting desparate for a clutch. I asked this vendor to find out the clamp load on the spec clutch. He found out for me from Spec themselves that the clamping force is 2200 lbs stage 3. I spoke with chris at competition clutch and asked him to test the stock pressure plate I sent them. It came in at 2400lbs. go figure, but clolse enough to tell me that I'll wait a while before I plunk down huge dollars for a spec.
Oh, and the car is still hauling ass with no problems other than a weak PP. Cheers.
