Polyurethane Motor Mounts Excellent MoD!

anyone who is having second thoughts about attempting to fill their mounts w/ poly should not think twice.

i was at a light next to a friend in a maxima with my buddy in the passenger seat. i turn off vsa and floor the gas (no brake torque), and the car slides through 1st gear to 40 mph like i was on a sheet of ice. no hopping at all. it probably would have slid through 2nd but i didn't want to find out.

wow, i never saw a FWD slide thru a gear like that with 0 hop. its a cheap and fairly easy mod. i noticed the poly squishing out of the sides, so i guess i'm going to have to try that engine damper too. these mounts just arent strong enough.

I'm a little confused. So they are good or not good? That last statement contradicts the thread title.

haha, i'm saying the mounts themselves arent strong at all, but with polyurethane are MUCH Better. from a visual standpoint it looks like they need some more assistance, but at the moment i got no hop at all, so i guess i can't complain.

Would you say it's an improvement over stock for say someone like myself that was lightly modded with headers and CAI? And, is there any way to make them a bit stronger?

i'm sure it would be improvement for ANYONE even stockers. bc i know even before my 3.5 i still hopped like crazy once and awhile if i got on it too hard.

they make different strength polyurethanes. one option is to try to source out something stronger. there is a very light vibration felt at idle while in gear, with the a/c off i can bearly feel it. i think for someone with less mods, wouldn't even notice the vibrations. i think the engine damper would seal the deal.

Glad they worked out for you. I don't think it's a good mod for me. The mounts are $$ & then you have to get them out & install them. You had the engine out so they were easy for you.
It's a good mod just not good for everyone.

the front and side would be relatively easy, if you have some tools and jacks, i think anyone can do it, the rear looks harder, but again, if you have jacks you can drop it from the bottom rather than trying to pull it from the top.

traction... i dont know, the car just feels planted all the time during accleration. much less 'liftoff' feeling than before.

I never had a real problem with hop, or traction in normal or even spirited driving. Except at the track. The hop can be corrected on the 6mt with throttle & clutch feathering. Something you can't do with an auto.

I was never able to control wheel hop with clutch feathering... how exactly do you do this on a hard launch? The only thing that has helped my wheel hop problem is a torque damper.

Depends on your sus. setup as well as tires, & tire size. My Toyos may squeal like hell but they don't loose grip.

Fuzzy... I agree totally. I used to have stock shocks, Toyo TPTs and lowered w/o camber correction and my traction and wheel hop problems were terrible. I put in the Ingalls kit first and noticed a big improvement... then moved to the AVS 100 tires and they stuck like glue. I fiddled a lot with the Tokico's to find the right balance of performance and comfort and settled on 4 back, 3 front. Most recently I installed the damper... and I can't believe the difference it makes.

Tires and suspension are huge factors in actually translating engine power to forward motion

Thanks for the feedback.

I think I saw sometime back someone do this and had similar results. I think it's time to do mine as it wheel hops like an SOB when I'm racing it.
