I need practicality, not a racer. I'm only 18, but I already think like my dad.......sigh.

Some of you people make me laugh. Buy a brand new car for 25k and just drive it into the ground as you drive to school...
lol

I say save it as well, invest some in repairing/maintaining your car. With about 3-4k invested in your car, I doubt you'll have many problems putting another 110k miles on it.
If your parents are getting you it, however, may I recommend the Passat Wagon w/ 2.0 TDI engine?
Seats 5, is a wagon (room), and gets 28 mpg in the city, 39 on the freeway. And as all diesels, great torque (247 lb/ft @ 1900 rpm). I really don't know about their reliability and such, but if your research checks out, that car sounds perfect for you.
Also, not a bad looker at all:

another vote for S2000.
S2k, Partical...NO, but you are young you only live once. Make someone else drive and pay for gas for your tail gating parties.
I'm getting 26mpg consistently and as long as im not crazy my S2000 has done just fine in the rain. (or Seattle drivers are just use to the rain)

Isnt this backward thinking for here in LA???
Wouldnt you want to commute in your scion and be seen pulling into clubs in your G everyone here in LA seems to be about showing off when you can

My 2 cents
If your CL is ok shape keep it. Unless you've bagged on it you should be able to drive it to 150,000 easy. Plus its still a nice car. Save the cash and buy something sweet when you're done school.
Its still a sweet car and I'm guessing its not all that bad on gas.
agreed

Sounds like dad is loaded. Take 1/2 of the 26K and invest it for graduate school. Take the other 1/2 along with your trade and get yourself something really nice. This would be a nice trade-off & would be an impressive decision for such a young guy.

Meh, I think I'm just going to end up keeping the CL. I have my Dad's truck if I ever need to haul shit. I'll just save the money and get an M3 or something when I graduate college
In the meantime I'm thinking of buying a FC3S RX-7 or IIgen Eclipse GS-T......just to fuck around with. And to have a stick.
