Cold Air Intakes

I know this has probably been discussed adnauseum, however I am unable to find this information through searching.

I am looking at the CT IceBox, AEM CAI, and Injen RD CAI. CT claims 8hp/7ftlb with CT headers/axle-back. AEM and Injen do not make claims. However, I have seen a lot of reviews where the Injen seems to produce better mileage and more hp/torque than CT or AEM regardless of vehicle.

Does anyone know the 'real world' gains for these?

cividrivr ... I was looking at the IceBox, but it is a bit bulky. Is there really any gain over that of the other 2 brands?

p.diddy ... That was what I was expecting to find out. All 3 running fairly equal.

Does your suggestion change with the introduction of CT headers, XLR8 HF Cat, and axle back by CT or Tanabe (Medalian Touring), or custom axle back with GReddy, MagnaFlow, or CT mufflers?

I am looking for mileage/power gains while keeping the CL-S on the quiet side.

CT icebox handsdown, is the quietest one out there

as far as exhaust, i got comptech headers, then also the Apexi cat-back and it is still quiet as hell

Icebox makes the most power, looks stock, CARB certified (I believe), and quiet. I wish I could still run mine.

, i had the sticker on the box itself then it started peeling real bad, so i ripped it off

but most of the other intakes on the market are CARB legal too though

If you want more of a stock look and quiet get the icebox. If you want modded look and not so quiet then get the others. The difference in gains are negligible.

Do you have a sound clip on the Injen? I found a brand new Injen for $200 shipped

Definitely recommend the Icebox.

It's bulkier but you also don't have to worry about water issues because it's covered.

Which was a partial consideration because it rains a lot where I live.

They all perform about the same. Differences between them will be minimal if any at all.

I have an Injen CAI. I'd recommend the Icebox first, then the Injen CAI, then the AEM intake. I have no problems with the Injen, but I just have a paranoia that it'll hydrolock someday. Of course my paranoia isn't really justified anymore since I have the hydroshield. If you're like me you'd probably want the Icebox for peace of mind.

That's another thing. If you get the Injen, get a Hydroshield to go with it. It's pretty essential It's a pre-filter that blocks out water without obstructing air flow. I got the RD1481 and it was on clearance on Injen's site. I believe it was around $200 shipped.

Just an FYI, the Hydroshield wont help you if the filter is submerged in water.

Yeah that's what the guy at Injen told me. The bypass valve for the AEM intake helps in that situation. Personally I'd rather have something that protects from splashes than something that protects from a submerged intake. Chances are I probably wouldn't even be driving if the weather was that bad

Thank you for the input everyone. There are several very good points to consider: Quietest is IceBox. All 3 equally good. Injen is louder, but very popular option.

Weather isn't really a factor for me. If the weather is that bad I'll take the Jeep if I simply must go somewhere. If the 33x12.5 A/T's can't get me there, I don't "need" to go there.

Does anyone have an audio clip of the Injen air intake on a CL-S at rpm? Maybe goosing it?

the bumper (along with the fender liner already does a pretty good job of that (unless of course you like to run bumperless )

also to OP, the icebox also happens to be by far the easiest filter to service, cause you access it from the top unlike the others from behind the bumper

Yeah, my hydroshield is still a little damp after driving through the rain. I'm sure that's mostly due to the mist flying up from the wheels.
