There are some things that you just shouldn't cheap out on.

A CAI is not one of those things. Hell, you can make your own for almost the same gains. Just don't get a short ram intake.

dude, not to be an ass, but there is 10 million threads on intakes, just search.
On another note, go to vibrantracing.com and get a 4" pipe, and a 4"-3" reducer to go into the throttle body and whatever filter and you'll be good to go. Dont get the cheap stuff like i did this time, you will regret it. you want the pipe to go right up to the headlight, or down in your tire well for best gains....gl

Nothing is wrong with a short ram intake, provide proof or don't post stuff you cannot back up.

Quoted from a fluid dynamics project.

It makes scientific sense from a fluid dynamics point of view :

A bigger diameter tube allows more air to go in but at a slower speed (more cross sectional area). The air flow speed needed to make peak volumetric efficiency occurs at a higher rpm compared to a smaller diameter tube.

A longer tube creates faster air flow compared to a short tube (i.e. more pressure differential from the opening to the TB end) and peak volumetric efficiency will occur at an earlier (i.e. lower) rpm. This is why a longer CAI has an advantage in the midrange over a short ram, regardless of intake temperature differences.

Some people prefer short rams and need their powerband to be higher with bigger cams. They get around the temperature controversy by building their own short ram heat shield.

Are you serious? Proof to back up what? My opinion? Of course it's my opinion. I didn't say, "SRI are scientifically proven to be inferior to CAIs." I just gave my opinion of what was better. Like you said at the bottom of your post, it's preference.

That being said, I do firmly believe that a CAI will produce more power than a SRI. Then again, I don't have a dyno.

Meh I prefer throttle response and efficiency over a measly 1hp+ 1tq, and as well as saving money, most CAI's are over priced anyways.

They are louder & suck up air from the engine bay instead of below the bumper where the air is cooler. This is my experiences with them on many cars/trucks.

Not saying they are all bad but they have cons. I have one on my explorer now cause there's nothing made for it. No other choice.

short ram intakes sound better, but have less performance due to sucking in the air in the engine bay, which is rather hot in our cars, especially in florida...

doesn't really matter when you are moving, dynos cannot compensate for the temp differences while driving.

I do agree that most CAIs are overpriced though. Doesn't cost the manufacturer much to make it, but I guess they have to pay for product fitment and testing.
