Mine's real soft for some reason. It's also notchy. It clicks every couple millimeters as I push it in.

You could try re-bleeding the system

I dont know if there is a DIY here or not, but its just like bleeding a brake. Attach a hose to the slave cyl and have some one assist by pushing in on the clutch. also making sure that the clutch reservoir doesnt go empty

One of my other cars is a M/T, the clutch started to get real soft. A month later it started slipping 3rd and 4th gear. How many miles do you have on your clutch?

Hmm...33k is not much. I get the car back today, I will tell you what he says about
the clutch being soft. Today the mecahnic said in addition to the clutch, he needed
to replace some seal.

It really depends on how it's driven. I think others have put over 100K on the original clutch.

Lippstuh - The mechanic didn't rebleed the system, the clutch and the pressure plate were replaced. Also the flywheel was resurfaced (this cannot be done for the cl dual mass flywheel). Also the rear engine seal was replaced, a little bit of oil was falling on the clutch.

Did you buy your car used? Since you only have 33k, take it to the dealer, see what they have to say. The clutch fluid shouldn't be dark, it is usually golden brownish. I don't see why it would get dark anyways.

For a Clutch ?? No... it's a normal wear and tear item like tires and brakes...

I've got 65K on mine, and it's not what it used to be, so I expect to have to replace it before 100K...

Could it be something as simple as the clutch pedal spring being stretched out over the countless times you press and release it? Just a wild guess.

its a spring? i really don't want to bring it to the stealership... esp when it's not under warrenty. i guess i'll rebleed the system, probably reinstall the cdd.

i always thought it was more of pressure that makes it stiff. while bleeding the system there is no pressure. you just press it and it's stuck on the floor.
