Clunk Sound

Hello fellow CL owners...lol. I have a 2001 CL-S. In the front I hear a clunk sound. Not too sure what it is. Changed the ball joints today and still hear the clunk sound. Could it be that I have cheap balljoints? Someone told me it's the stabilizer links. Anybody have any information please let me know......Really appreciate it thanks! I only hear this sound when I slow down or when I just press the accelerator from a dead stop. Sometimes when turning the wheel until it locks.

Question# 2. Are the bulbs for the climate control and rear defrost easy to change? Also want to change the bulb in the reset button and dimmer button. Any info please thanks!

Yeah, hopefully it's something simple like the swaybar...

I was thinking the same. Try putting some lube on the sway bar bushings and see if that helps.

Any updates? I'm starting to hear an occasional clunk in my front too. I will put it up on a lift next week and inspect the end links since I've heard they tend to fail. I just hope I can find the weak link in the chain. I hate thinking that this thing might be tearing up already.

Hey guys, i also hear that sound and it sounds like its comming from the wheel wel or something. Sounds kind of like 2 flaps hitting eachother, but I checked and everything seemed in place. My CAI was also installed tightly so it couldent be that. I am also wondering that the hell that can be comming from. And like el cubano said, it usually come when accelerating from a turn or just under acceleration. The dealer had told me that my motor mounts need to be replaced, but I never told them about that sound.

If anyone has fixed this problem..i think we all need your help

Motor mounts maybe. Just cause they look ok doesn't mean they are.

I agree, all of the v6 honda products eat front mounts all the time, sound like that may be it since you said accellerating from a stop, the engine is rocking back on accell and drops down when the gas is eased up.

Best way to see is have someone sit in the car, apply the parking brake, shift to D and hold their left foor firmly on the brake and ease the throttle up to about 2k or so, then let off. if the engine tilts more than an inch or so, or if you hear the sound at this time it's probably the front mount.

Another quick way to tell if the mount is bad is, lay under the car, look at the back side of the mount where the vaccumm hose is connected, if it looks wet or really greasy, it's leaking it's oil and is bad.

i have a clunk coming from the back of my car...i was told its the bushing on the top of the struts. I forget the name for it but i was readong another thread and everyone was saying it was the sway bar and the wheel bearings. My mechanic told me that any car that is lowered is prone to needing these bushings. Im gonna replace them sometime soon so ill let u guys know if the noise goes away or not

Well it doesent sound too much like a metal on metal contact. Sounds more like 3 flaps hitting eachother about 2-4 times... I cant explain it in such detail, but I hope i can get it fixed without a mechanic screwing me over.

I have a clunk....my front passenger wheel/axle....something up that way. It's when I hit slight bumps in the road, and only the front passenger side. Recently had my axles replaced, so I gotta get it looked at....hmm.

Not too much in the upper control arm that can go wrong. Did they specify what exactly was wrong with it? Are you on stock suspension, any camber kits?

There's several components to the suspension, and just about anything can be making noise. And it makes it even harder to figure out what's wrong if you can't locate the source of the sound.

Wouldn't it be nice to have every suspension piece replaced with brand new components and torqued properly? Ahhhh, the thought.

What's the point in replacing the components? He torqued the existing ones and it worked fine.

Its actually not that expensive to change all the front suspension parts.

Go and buy some Moog parts.....

2 sets of front sway bar end links
2 outer tie rod ends
2 lower ball joints

For about $120 in parts, your front suspension will feel soooo much more solid.

Greasable joints are 10X better and the moog products are made much better than OEM.

sound repaired but still have problems

So I found out what the sound was. When I did my transmission this metal thing, I'm not too sure what it's called but it holds the control arm to the axle I guess. It needed to be tightened. Tightened it and noise went away.

Then I changed all 4 stabilizer links with aftermarket links. When hitting potholes I heard a little tiny sound. Brought it to Acura and they told me the ABS bracket on the upper control arms are broken and need to be replaced. They tied it up with these plastic ties and told me it's not a big deal. Not to worry spending my money on it.

Stabilizer links were nice for about a week or two but now I'm getting that 3 flap sound he's talking about every time I turn the wheel and press the accelerator. I have a feeling the links are cheap. Going to by Acura links and have them installed.

Driver seatbelt makes noise whenever I press the brake. Bloody annoying, SRS light is on, Windshield fluid light is on, Rear compartment under armrest makes noise because rubber is missing and passenger seat makes noise when nobody is sitting in it.

BLOOD ANNOYING NOISES. If anybody knows how to fix any of these please let me know. The arm rest thing I'm just going to put some rubber where it closes. Seatbelt noise clueless. How to tighten the passenger seat please let me know.

I tried reseting the SRS sensor, Once the passenger seatbelt is clicked in then it goes back on. Do I need a new seatbelt buckle??? Windshield washer empty light.......who cares LOL!

The point would be (in cases where that doesn't work) to have brand new parts that took longer to wear out and to have peace of mind that it was something you wouldn't have to worry about tearing up for awhile. (hopefully anyway)

"Windshield washer empty light"

Must be a Canada model cause US cars don't have that.

Yup it's a Canadian model. We have those. It was convenient but when it malfunctions it's the most annoying thing to look at in the world!
