CLS WILL do 150MPH Vs. 06 Lexus GS300

I know there was som question as far as top speed limiter being around 146 to 148. Not the case. At least 150.

Ok, there is a guy at my work who has a GS300 2006 Auto trans. So we are leaving work on a empty Hwy 50 in Pueblo. So I pull up next to him and were at 80. He gives a smile so I drop it to D3 wich puts my RPM's right at 5K. I hear him dump it and his car starts to downshift. I wait till he starts to make pwer and I dump it. By the end of third I have 3 to 4 cars on him. I shift it to fourth and he stops my advance. I think he actually made up 1 to 1 1/2 cars. Once I get to about 120 to 125 I strat to pull on him again. I keep it in 4th the entire time. I noticed him getting further and further away at 135. I quit looking in the mirror once I pass 140. I see another co worker up ahead in his Mustang so I decide to keep in it. By the time I pass him I'm right at 150MPH in 4th gear. Not to sure of the RPMs at that point. I let out, and I never felt a speed limiter kick in. Unless its really really soft. Could it have gone faster, yes without a doubt I had power to get faster. Don't know if the cars will let it or not though. I just thought I was already pushing it to far and back down.

I start slowing and once I'm back at Hwy speed I call the guy in the Lexus. It seem he has a limiter around 135mph.

Next race will be 1/4 mile with a 06 BMW 330 at the track though on the 20th.

Your speedo just indicated 150.
Fuel cut off is at 147mph.
You need a GPS or radar gun to see what speed you are really at. Also keep in mind your tire size. Running a different size then stock, or at least the same diameter will not keep the speedo accurate.

I thought I saw on that Acura CL press video it siad top speed 150.

But anyways, your right, Speedo indication could be off. I have stock size tires and rims.

And since you mentioned it, we do use radar guns here on base and could eisily use it to check it out.

I've hit fuel cutoff.... Several times. It's very abrupt. You would have felt it. Each time I was above 150 indicated. The speedo is not liner. So it will be less accurate at higher speeds. Although, your car could be a freak. Maybe someone decided to not program the limiter. I heard that happens with some cars.

Now here's the real question: I'm wondering if you could take one of those program modules like what they use to tune those aftermarket turbo diesels for those trucks and erase the limiter programming for the CL-S. Gotta wonder.

I hit 149 once when I first got the car but I haven't been able to get past 140 lately. It's time for a tune-up. But that time I hit 149 I did feel the power fading away like it was limited. It wasn't abrupt but noticable.

Well if I build up the nerve to try again I'll take the Radar gun out of my work truck or use my Garmin Rino to GPS the speed.

Might be awhile though.

Matbe after a few mods so I can get it up to speed faster.

Acura says 147mph is the top speed but like said before the speedo isn't always acurate.

Just watched the press conference for the 01 CL-S and it said 147.
