On the way home yesturday a eclipse started to mess with me. Well I couldnt take that so we ended up racing during traffic. We were neck an neck until all of a sudden i heard some whistle sound and he then started to pull away. is that the turbo? or nitrous?

 

probably juice. Even if he had a turbo, you should still be able to hang

Probably was turbo charged but you would have heard that the whole time, not just while he was pulling away. Could have been spray

 

i dont know what year eclipse youre talking about, but if its still the egg version (you know what i mean, not the new eclipse) then it was probably the turbo. The eclipses came in a gs-t turbo version. and the gsx turbo AWD version

I had an awd Eclipse with an adjustable turbo and it could be lit up to almost twice stock PSI, running >250hp. It out ran a 5L Mustang up a hill so don't feel bad...

 

DSMs are real easy to modify and make tons of power. It's a detuned version of the 4G63 in the Lancer Evo 5 which is very close to the current engine in the Lancer Evo 8 (EVO in the USA).

 

CL has no chance against a properly modded turbo Eclipse. May have been a blow off valve you heard. THey like to put really loud ones on those cars. Would have went Psssssshh if he shifted gears.

 

If the whistle sound was brief and sounded like "pssshhh" then it was BOV. If it was more of a constant whistle, then it's the turbo spooling up, which indicates that there could be a big turbo nestled underneath the hood.


Don't mess with modified AWD turbo DSM's. They are fast. There's several in my car club and umm... they are... quick. And that's only with a few mods. Stock, 2nd gen AWD Turbo runs 15.1 stock, but with intake, exhaust, boost controller, it can do high 13's, low 14's easy.
