the CLS big time, the Celica GT-S has 180 HP to the CLS' 260 my buddy had intake/exhaust on his Celica GT-S and he could best a 15.2xx out of it

 

Yeah, the CL-S puts more on the ground than the GTS.

Like this guy told me that his WS-6 beats the new 03 Cobras all over the place...I'm like, right...stock for stock the Cobra puts more to the wheels than you have at the crank, but you beat them...you sure you are not racing against a guy that has driven a manual before?

you could take your 01-03 Automatic and not even put it in SS and lay the smack down on the GT-S. if you got a 6-speed you'll smoke him.

 

WTF? That coming from someone with over 350 posts. Maybe he left his computer out and his little brother was asking! You would walk past a Celica GT-S.

 

Actually, you are all wrong.........there are many GTS's on the newcelica.org board that run the exact same time as us Cl-S members. With intake and exhaust they can easily run mid 14's, as well as a cl-s with intake and headers should easily be able to run mid 14's........you guys talk about putting hp to the ground, well are you forgeting other factors??like weight, the GTS only weighs 2500lbs, with intake and exhaust they dyno in the 170's to the wheels and weigh 1000lbs less.

You guys need to start doing more research, and stop reading magazines.

 

I suprized by the total lack of respect for the GT-S, but then 85%or more are auto, so maybe not. I have a 00 6 speed. I ran a CL type S a while back. I thought it would be a good race(I took it as a compliment when he started rev on me first) both 14 sec car, i have an intake and short shifter. So we slow comming to a light to catch a red. so we line up when the light turned green he immediatly jumped a car or so, it stayed that way through first and most of second. In 3rd I slowly caught up and passed by 4th i had 1-2 cars and we shut it down. he gave me a thumbs up and that was it. I was suprised, and it was a fun race.

And my best 1/4 mile is 14.4@99mph with 2.36 60ft (a pretty sorry launch)unbolted exhaust and stripped rear interior. I only got 3 runs in,(2 at 14.5) so I hope to soon improve on that time.

damn, you got a GTS on crack....congrats....i was gonna reply, not if they're spraying, cause before i got my headers (and gas) i ran into one that was spraying and he didnt pull on me, but he was door to door all the way...its funny people just dont know sometimes

 

Was it a 6spd? how much was he spraying? I dont see why the other guy has a GTS on crack...........but i wouldn't doubt that a cl-s 6spd can easily take a GTS. Just that the auto cl-s would be about an even match.

 

im not sure...it was a highway pull, but anyways, i was surprised as well to see their lack of respect, but then again toyota brought it on themselves when they did that horrible redesign...anyways, the Supra has always overshadowed any sports car by Toyota, man i hope they bring it back soon...rumors say 2005, but that could just be rumors...

 

I think that a lot of the "magazine racers" aren't talking mods. We all know that you can mod a civic to death and spank most anything. Stock for stock, the GTS is dust.

 

The problem with the GTS and most other low displacement 4 cylinder engines is they have a very small usable powerband for racing. I was in one, not racing, and below 5,000 rpm's there isn't any power.

The GTS is a quick car. I ran one and it was close til about 50 then I walked away.

 

where does the CL-S auto have the biggest disadvantage compared to the CL-S 6 speed low end or top end?? I'm not sure if it was an auto or 6sp, though i'm thinking it was an auto, but i'd like to run a 6 sp sometime to see how i'd hang. i pulled nicely on the CL-S between 65-95 so it would make sence that the auto has less top end, because he sure did get a nice jump off the launch. The celica strong piont is the top end. I've top out 5th gear at just below 150(147 i believe). I may have hit 150+ if i shifted in to 6th, but that was enogh for me so i just let it hit the rev limiter before i shut it down.

At the time I had 17s with a taller profile than stock 45 rather than 40 so that would indicate a lower speed on the speedo possible right???

 

There is no way that a Celica GTS goes 150 mph, more like 135 if that. The CL-S has a top speed of 147-149. So you are telling me that a 4 banger has a higher top speed??
As for the question of which car one has more top end the 6sp does.

 

The auto CLS is weakest top end. 4th and 5th gear are too tall. Headers help somewhat. An auto CLS pulls hard until about 112-115mph when it hits 4th gear

 

Stock the GTS has been know to hit 140mph. I had an intake at the time i topped mine in 5th and it was a cool night. I've seen a picture of a GTS hit a speedo indicated 153mph. I believe the guys handle was phewl on newcelica.org be he no longer own the celica, the pic was posted a while back. I know its possible for a modded GTS to hit 150

 

ok, the GTS tops out around 140mph in 5th gear, 6th gear has no pull........the cl-s tops out around 147mph i believe elec. limited, but dont be so ignorant to say because one car has more power it should be all around faster, aerodynamics?

I know for sure the GTS has a bad ass 3rd gear, and i believe the GTS will take the cl-s in 3rd gear and i know the gts will take it over 100mph.


And lastly, stock for stock it IS a drivers race for a GTS 6spd and a auto CLS, i took both cars to the track a few times and my best for both cars during the summer was 15.1, both with intake.

Nothing ignorant about it... I just get mad when peolpe say my car went 155 or something stupid like that, when any sane person knows it can't. Just beacuse your speedometer says 150 doesn't mean you are going 150. I know that the GTS doesn't go 150 it just doesn't have the power to do so. In an old issue of Car & Driver top speed was listed at 135.

 

Yeah, i remember when MT said it was limited to 135, and there was a big discussion on the celica board, because a lot of people got over 135mph including me.

The celica does actually have the power to go faster though, one guy took his car to a dyno shop and they wanted to test the max speed, going into 6th of course, and after a while i believe it got up to around 160 or 170 something, but that would never happen on a real road.

when i say 150 i mean speedo indicated. At those speeds I know the celica speedo is not totally acurate.

 

I will admit there are a lot of girls that own the celica, but that is any car that is small, sporty, and as girls like to say cute. But not many girls own the GTS, because a lot of them dont care about speed, and if it weren't for the GTS then i would have to say that the celica is a girly car.
