CLS Replacement Rotors/pads ?

Okay my stock [03] rotors have finally gone bad and wanted recommendations for replacement.

Initially I wanted to go slotted but shyed away because I heard the slotted/drilled ones couldn't be turned. Is this true? Would I still be better off going slotted? That's my first preference.

I was then looking to just put the Brembo replacements on but wasn't sure the blanks were any better than OEM. Does anyone know if they are beefier than stock?

Also, I have read to not use the hawk pads because of dust. Someone recommended EBC greenstuff, but i heard those pads suck--no stopping power.

So is there a consensus recommendation? Also, I am still running the stock CLS 17" wheels. And I am just planning to do the fronts--at least initially. I'll prob put the SS brake lines on during the replacement as well.

Thanks.

Well, slotted/drilled rotors can be turned, but "special" equipment is necessary. So, if you can find a shop that has the machinery to turn them, you're set.

Many people on this forum, including myself, have installed ROTORA slotted rotors with Axxis Ultimate pads. Granted there is more dust and bit of squeeling when you come to a stop b/c the pad is semi-metallic as opposed to the ceramic pads that Honda puts on from the factory, but there is a nice bite to the pad and good stopping power. I believe others have put on rotors from www.irotor.com. I believe that is what the site is. EBC Greenstuff do not shed as much dust though, but I am not aware of how well they brake. Also if you're interested in SS brake lines, I have SS lines for sale from ROTORA for the 01-03 CL.

Cool. Can you tell if the Brembo blanks are beefier than stock? I'm wondering if the replacements will warp like the OEM.

Also what pads did you go with?

well they do seem beefier but i will test them tonite...i really have not had time to test them well enough....as far as the pads, i got them from the same website they are akebono (i wanted the green stuff pads but they were not in stock) i would go with axxis pads because i heard nothing but good things about them.

Thanks TypeR. Just ordered the Rotoras & Comptech SS lines. And I want to stick with ceramic and those Ceramix pads look decent.
Thanks all..

Update: went with Akebono ceramic pads. Should be a decent setup when done. The warping sucks while braking at 90+.

Plan to paint the front (and maybe back) calipers during rebuild. Prob Red(F)/black(R)

I went with Brembo X-Drilled and slotted rotors w/ stock pads.

Got about 10K on them and I love 'em.

You should be happy with the Akebono's. I've had them for over 10K, no squeal or dust and better bite than stock.

I think you have that backwards.

The Axxis Ultimate pads are a Kevlar and ceramic blend. They are in no way semi-metallic.

The stock honda pads I believe are metallic.

Axxis Ultimate are ceramic/kevlar. Axxis metal master are semi-metallic.

My understanding is Acura calls for ceramic.. and OEM are the Akebonos.

Yeah the dust issue steered me away from the Axxis.

I'm pretty sure the stock pads I took off were NOT ceramic. they certainly felt metallic to me

Update: just got >600 mi on new setup: Rotora slotted, Akebono ceramic, SS brake lines.

In short, I love the new setup. It's a much better pedal feel..

I'm really glad I went with the Rotoras.. the slots are very small and they don't make an audible noise when braking.

The pads seem great; no more dust than stock (they shouldn't bc they're supposed to be oem).

The SS lines were fairly straightforward to install.. just make sure you use the install FAQ from this forum.

Also used Valvoline DOT 4 fluid. I would have used something "better" but the valvoline was available locally and I didn't want to mess around. A hint--you'll use a little more than the recommended amount on the FAQ.

So if you're on the fence about getting slotted--don't worry about it. The Rotoras are really nice.
