Just sold my CLS 6MT to a guy in Warsaw Poland.

He's coming here and giving me 14.5K cash for it (USD)

For those of you who don't know, I got into a wreck recently and repairs were estimated at 5K. I don't have full coverage so I would've had to eat the repair costs. I have the 5K to repair the car with but I really want to save that money to travel Europe/Asia now that I've just graduated from UT Austin.

I'm gonna really miss that car.

Now I have about 20K to buy a new car with in my account. What should I get that will be

1) reliable
2) not too harsh on insurance costs
3) easily repaired inexpensively

The reason is that in september I'm starting a new job and I'm moving to California (OC). I want something just to make it through the year until I get accepted into medical school next year. I'd rather not have to worry about payments this summer since I'll be studying for my MCAT exam.

My plan is to drive a beater for a while and get a nice car when med school acceptance letter comes in the mail. By then, I'll have some money saved up from work this year as well as hopefully some of that 20K left for buying a car. I'd really like to finance an M3 or something of that caliber at that point.

Anyways, it was nice being here these past 2.5 years. I'm sure I'll still be sticking around and drooling over your CLs while I drive my econobox beat, whatever it may be.

You looking for new cars only? You could get an SRT4 Neon if you're in to speed. Also a clean used Type-R Integra would make a nice "beater". The Civic Si hatch would also make a cool car for 20k.

Are you looking to spend the whole 20K or save 5 for traveling? If you want something inexpensive and reliable just get a 4 cyl. Accord 94-96 for now. You shouldn't pay more than 7-8 for a good one. If you want something sporty and cheap try to find a last generation Prelude for 10-12(higher miles). Be sure to check the insurance rates for the Prelude. I wouldn't spend the entire 20K if your going to sell it in a year anyway and get another car.

UT - I guess I won't hold that against you! How about a slightly used adult driven '01 or '02 camaro SS or Trans Am WS6 package. You don't need front wheel drive in OC.

I pulled up next to a newer Camaro SS the other day at a red light and felt a little humbled!!

03 CLS Six Speed
Icebox (with drilled holes in faux fog light)

Sorry to hear you had to let it go but an M3 down the road would make a more then worthy replacement.

The guy posted in the black market a few days ago saying he was interested in ANY 6-speed CL-S to take back to Poland. He sounded 100% legit.

This guy contacted me also about my 6 speed. I just didn't want to deal with an overseas buyer. Nothing against him, just my feelings on it.

yes, it's the guy from that thread that's from Poland.

I'm going to be sure and tie up all lose ends and we're doing everything in cash. the bank will verify authenticity of all cash and it will go into my account before anything happens so far as the title or keys are involved. I spoke to the man on the phone and he seems very serious and has just bought his plane ticket 2 days ago.

This is not such a bad deal for me and in reality a good chance for this guy to get a car he wants for a reasonable price. I have al ot of mileage on my car but most of it is highway and the car has been well cared for mechanically (mobil 1 full synthetic and M1-105 all the time except twice, 15K tranny fluid changes).

I expect for things to go smoothly but thanks for the all the replies guys. I'm trying to find another car now so any suggestions would be great. I'd like to save some of the moeny to invest in my future (CAPS, mtuual funds) to hopefully lookforwards in the next few years.

Thanks again for all your interest.

I can see why he wants it wrecked - buddy of mine used to sell cars from Canada to Poland, and before they crossed the Polish border, they took a blowtorch / grinder to them and cut panels off. The rationale was that the cars were "scrap" and as such were exempt from serious import duty. A wrecked CL sounds like it would be put in the same category.

Hmmm... :squinteek:

A new hollywood tale ?

Harry Potter 7 ?

I read somewhere, that some guys hide used cars in Tomahawk missiles and
pretended that there is nothing but missiles to avoid custom duties.

It works.

Thanx buddy,

There is lots of things to be arranged ...

But I'm sure CLS is worth it.

If everything goes smoothly car will be in Poland around July 5th.

Well...
To my best knowledge, there is no CL-S in Europe.
There might be at least one 2001 CL Premium.

but please help me understand why would you want a wrecked cl-s?

im sure you have lots of money since you are going through all this. so why all the headache and waiting around and just get one thats not wrecked?

also where do you plan on repairing the cl-s? and how much do you think you will have spent after all of this is done?

Sucks about the car. At least you're OK

For $20k I'd look at:

Neon SRT4
Nissan Sentra VSpec
Toyota Matrix
Scion Tc (just came out.. pretty sweet looking)
Honda Civic Si
1-2 year old Honda Accord
