CLS 6 vs. Evo MR
My friend just got an MR and he wants to race when he gets back from Japan.
I know spec wise, he'll kill me, but does the cl stand any chance at all. Even w/ my bolt-ons and his stock, would it even be interesting?

Well...
Owning a turbo tl and owning an evo...
I think you have no chance unless you have quite of bit of mods. If you are talking about an 06 evo 9 MR, it has a different turbo then the prior models and individuals have been breaking high 12(12.8-12.9) stock and low 12s with just a few more mods.
In that same token, its all about the driver but the evo 9 is a different beast from the evo 8(03-05 models).
Good luck.

Even from the roll, i dont think he would have much as of chance, against an evo 8 yes, but not against the 9 imo. I haven't seen a stock evo 9 flashed, but heard they can break 300whp with a base flash and no mods, dont know if thats true. I did 245whp & 250wtq stock when I dynoed my 8 originally so anything possible. Again, good luck but try not to race them off the line. If he has that launch control feature(with a base flash), he will put a few cars inbetween you from the start.

hope so, we'll try both (dig & roll). He got the 07 so it's going to be interesting. I've never raced one before, or an sti, so hopefully I can hold my own or at least keep up.
Yea, in Japan there's some annual racing event going on and i guess hes gonna be in it. He said theres skylines everywhere and there used as daily drivers. Wish we had that here!

Although your car is heavier then mine, you still stand a chance. If you can get your car past 260whp, I think you will be able to hang with a stock MR. I can trap in the 102's so that definitley allows me to keep up with them off a roll.

Unless this kid knows how to brake boost, he's going to get turbo lag from a roll. The gearing from the 6 speed tranny results in slower times than the 5 speed.
Chance is no different than probability. And to say he has a ZERO chance in winning is the same as stating he has a ZERO probability in winning. And based on real life scenarios/events, that is an inaccurate statement.
And if the original question was whether he can hang with the Evo (not beat, just hang), then the answer is obvious he stands a chance in hanging with a stock evo...

Went to one of the local evo shops today to pick up some parts but saw they were doing some dyno tuning so I figured I would stick around and a stock evo 9 with an aem intake and a base flash, gained 53wtq and 52.4whp. This is one of the lowest reading dynos in our area. Just an fyi, even though you said it was stock.

Not sure if you mean all of us, I own an Evo and I stated I didn't think he had a chance unless its a drivers error, especially against an evo 9. Evo 8, he may have a chance. As stated before, people have pulled a high 12.9 stock however with driver error, any car can be beat depending on what the starting point is and where they are stopping at.

stock for stock, the sti has more power however from what I have seen, people are making better times with an evo with less power. I have never driven and/or owned an sti but I heard the gearing on them sucks.

Im pretty sure that by suggesting how much power he needs to hang with an MR and him not having it automaticaly answers his own question no need to point it out. I'm merely posting up the numbers to show him, if he has less, then thats on him.

Interestingly enough all the Evos in the mags had much higher traps, a little to high if you ask me especially when comapred to the STi (105>100)

Well with driver error out of the question, the evo will pull by a minimum of 2 cars depending on whether you guys run from a dig, roll, what gear, etc...
Your best chance in hanging with him will be to run him in your 3rd gear roughly around 65 mph.

I'm fully aware as much as anyone else is that with driver error any car can be beat, but from looking at what kind of history this guy has driving, I'm thinking he's not going to have much error. Sure from a roll there's more of a chance to "hang" with an Evo, but it all comes down to how you define "hang". Does that mean you can still see his taillights four, five, six car lengths ahead thus you "hung" with it? I just think to really hang you'd need pretty much every bolt on available for the CL.

Yeah your numbers don't help as much since your posting a rediculously high ET for a stock CLS 6spd. As for other mag times regarding the Evo and such if the guy is a good driver as mentioned he might be able to match/beat those times.

Don't forget the reflash of the ECU thats the main reason for those gains.

I went from 240whp to 278bhp.
