lol for the front bumper?? dude it's gonna get marks on it no matter what, U may as well accept the inevitable. for the hood... I can understand cause it's on a very steep angle so the impact isn't very intense. but for the front bumper... u think a piece of 3m plastic will stop a lil rock going at 80km/h or more from creating ANY damage on the bumper?? I doubt it

Just use some DAMN good clear coat and hardener and that will prevent paint flaking and call it a day.

without a good paint job/paint/hardener/clearcoat.... a couple lil rocks could ruin ur whole front end. Happened to my bro when he got his prelude. they cheaped out on the paint and the first thing that touched his bumper knocked off alllll the paint in that area..... whata discrace

When I got my car they painted the front and back bumpers and I was anal too. Completely worried about getting marks on it. But after a couple lil specks I decided to hell with it... that's the life of a front bumper for a daily driver.... ESPECIALLY when we got salt on the roads belting the car.

that's my 2cents

Yeah I'm thinking I might want to get the front lip of my hood repainted, it's got a bunch of white flakes. After that a clear bra.

in fact, the tint shop I want to get my windows tinted at, also does clear bra. to be honest I can't understand why a tint shop wouldn't offer clear bra

yeah as long as the bumper is CORRECTLY painted, it should not chip (factory paint has no problem )

it is all in the prep work with using the correct paint, for getting it to stay (the paint on bumpers is actually more flexible then the rest of the car)

quality paint helps too

Not necessarily.

My front bumper/hood area is chipped to hell, and its OEM paint.

I dont care how flexible the paint may be, its not going to repell a rock travelling at 80mph towards your car.

something like when added to paint makes it more flexible to help prevent chipping

http://www.spaceagepaint.com/product...d_product=8535

every paint manufacture has their own version, which should be used with their own paint

maybe not so much chipping, but more all the paint flaking off from the whole surrounding area, and not just that little spot, from the bumper flexing itself

Well, if you chip the paint (down to the plastic), you now break the bond so the surrounding areas could chip/flake more.

But without a chip, the paint shouldnt flake unless the painter didnt do it correctly.

ethier way it has to be done correctly and with the correct materials for it to even have a chance at lasting

and yeah it is kinda hard to be anal on the paint on a dd, it is going to get blemishes on it

Can't put the clear bra on for at least 60-90 days after painting or else it won't cure right. As others have said, clear bras do very little.

what does a clear bra look like because the only thing that comes to mind is the black leather bra they put on maximas.

Yeah it's basically a big piece of film (like tint, and yeah it's clear) that they lay on the front of the car (most clear bras I've seen were only on the hood--no front bumper.)

Most films will last 5-7 years before yellowing, so thats about right.

That and the drastic temp changes.

Ive seen polishes for clear bras to keep them optically clear. They may help at prolonging the life of the film.

im debating doing the clear bra from www.xpel.com, but for the price of the hood and bumper cover i could just get my whole bumper repainted and that isnt even including install time/cost for the clear bra. So basically do you really think it is worth it for that kinda money vs just getting the bumper repainted every 2-5 years? Also if the clear bra wont stop most rock chips anyway it seems repainted bumper is just a better option.

I got one off of ebay for $14 generic like I siad( so you have to cut it to size ) but you can get a pre cut one is 40 for hood and bumper, like I said im installing it myself so its going to cost me 14, But I agree for 200 plus 50-100 installation is really expensive and its not going to protect against every thing so its not really worth it for you

But to paint the bumper is around 400-500cad and I have no idea how much the hood is

Thats why if your going to get it, get the cheap ebay one IMO

i have the entire front bumper done and the hood. i would say it helps with rock chips as the film is very thick. however it will be a pain in the ass to heat up and get to mold to the bumper. for a nice daily driver i would say it is a great worthwhile investment.
