CL Type S vs. Non Type S
CL Type S vs. Non Type S
Hi everyone. I am new to this forum. I am looking to purchase the CL- Type S. I was just wondering if the extra money for the Type S was really worth it. Is there really a big difference in performance? Thanks in advance for any info.

I would suggest the S too. My dad bought me my car and didn't want me to have anymroe speed so he got me the 3.2Cl. I've come to found there isn't much difference. Maybe 2-3 cars to 100. But both cars are quick as for the leather I hate the Type S leather, but love the VSA for taking tight turns. They are both great cars, but if you got the money get an S2000 I drove one the other day and they are awesome. What did you mean by 1 0-60 type S kid, if you mean cars then you are right, if you mean seconds then you are not correct. Also if you get the Type S get that red it looks so sweet, if you can deal with the cops in NY always watching you for it.

I've driven both and the S is the way to go. Just better in my opinion. I like the seats the shift knob, the wheels and everyone will agree the vtec wail at 5000 plus RPMS
The steering is more tighter not as loose on the S. Sorry I'm not raggin on the CLP but come on for only 2g's thats a bargain

5 from CL-S owners.
1 from a kid who’s dad owns a CL-S
1 from a kid who’s dad only bought him a CL-P
Since this board is overwhelmingly CL-S biased you may not be able to get a fair comparison here. Since you are about to spend $30,000, find a dealer that will let you test drive them back to back. Take at least a 10 minute drive in each and let your butt tell you if it is worth $2,000 more. I found that it wasn’t.
If you are only concerned with 0-60 or 1/4 mile times, then go with the CL-S. (I’m 23 by the way) Otherewise the CL-P is a great car. If you are worried about performance you can always modify a CL-P (Springs, Sways, Rims, Tires, Headers, CAI, SuperCharger, etc…)
Remember that there is only a .4 sec difference between these two cars.

Hmmm...depends too...the regular leather seats on the CL-P is not as supportive or comfy...You don't get VSA...which as much as people don't like it in spirited driving makes you look like a pretty good driver in everyday driving through any twisties that might pop up...a better braking system...(1 more channel)....and the motor. It all depends...if you wanna spend the money on the S...you will.
if you were even to consider any mods, the best and easiest mod is to check off the box that says
TYPE S
NUFF SAID
why try to play catch up later.
no flames from p owners please as we are all brothers

I bought the CL-P and I'm more than happy with it. I replaced the stereo (a must!) but I have no intention of doing any performance mods. I use my car as an everyday driver. I wanted something that had good power, good looks, good handling, and that would hopefully last a long time. The CL-P fit that bill perfectly. I don't need to shave that extra second between stop signs. I don't need to take that turn onto a side road at 60. I also don't like the seats in the S personally. Never liked perforated leather. No matter which one you buy you're getting a great car.

That's an understatement if I've ever heard one.

if you want car just to drive and you dont care thatmuch for performance then the CLP is good. However, being a CLP owner myself i wish i had the CLS, not becuase of the .4 seconds faster but because every freaking mod i have done works beter on the CLS. I like taking hte turns hard andi like the power to be there when needed. I wasnt able to get the CLS because igot it when the new CL first came out and i had to wait 4 months for the CLS, so they said....As far as leather goes...one thing i hate is that the leather wore out freakign fast on me. The perforated leather actually allows more life into the leather because wrinkles show less and my car looks older than some 95' bmw 3 series. ANd i clean my car alot..pretty anal about the interior...well the exterior too. One thing i like about the CLP more is the wood trim. THe black wood never really did it for me. However the white guages did on the CLS. The shift knob, i couldnt care less since i replaced it anyhow. Outside body is the same. My biggest complaint is simply the mods. For ex. everyone got sway bars, and said they were so amazing, so i got hte sways...didnt feel shit. Intake getes a few less HP than the CLS. The headers, if i were to get them, get like 16 less HP thanit does on the CLS...what a waste of money for hte CLP then....anyhow. most performace gains are less for the car and thats what sucks since i was hoping that since i got the lower one i coudl jsut use hte 2k and tune it to be better than a CLS. But its not closely worht it. So for me i wish i had hte CLS. For a regular driver...CLP maybe all you need.

Just drive the damn things and make the choice for yourself. :p
Personally, I didn't give a shit.....they both felt close enough and the Type-S had a 4-6 week waiting period for Satin Silver at that time. There was actually a surcharge over sticker for the Silver CL-S whereas the CL-P was 500.00 over invoice. I saved a boatload of cash by choosing the CL-P back then. When you pay for your car outright 4 grand is not chump change....whereas it's like 70-80 buck a month on a 5 year loan or 3 year lease. Now it's pretty much just the $2,350 upgrade with no spread.
At present....both have slowed quite a bit in sales (thx TL-S :p ) but the CL-P outsells the CL-S nowadays. Why? Prolly cuz a large % of CL's are leased.
Again, just drive them. These guys are all CL-S bitches....so don't expect a straight answer out of them. :p
Me, I'd buy a CL-P again no ?'s asked. However (but don't tell anyone), I'd buy a CL-S next time around if I can have Burlwood Trim with the Ebony interior.

Gee, thanks Satin!
Yeah, the best advise is to drive both, back to back. Not everyone likes the same car for the same reasons.
I never would have even considered the CL except that friends were looking at a CL-P in spring 2000. I went along for the test drive and thought the CL-P was a nice car for the money. But my friends are conservative and I don't think could handle a 260 HP car.
But once I made that fateful decision to sit in the CL-S on the showroom floor, I fell in love with how the seat cradled my back. Then of course the test drive sealed the deal. {I took quite a bath by trading in an 8-month old car (financed) on my CL-S.} While I love the car to death and have not found another car I like better, I would not have made this sacrifice for the CL-P.
So, go drive them both and let us know what you think!
